Highlights

  • Reported Duet and Triton plans could introduce monthly playtime limits for Xbox Cloud Gaming.
  • Triton is linked to Microsoft first-party franchises like Halo and Fallout.
  • Duet has been tied to a possible Netflix bundle and lower-cost pricing.

Microsoft may be exploring new Xbox Game Pass plans that introduce monthly limits for cloud gaming, according to a recent datamine from @redphx on X. The reported tiers, Duet and Triton, remain unconfirmed, with Microsoft yet to announce timing, pricing, final details, or whether the plans exist at all.

According to the leak, both subscriptions could support Xbox Cloud Gaming through a fixed monthly time allowance rather than unlimited streaming. If launched, that would mark a change from Microsoft’s current cloud-enabled Game Pass structure, which has promoted unrestricted access across supported plans.

Triton is stated to be a first-party-focused tier built around Microsoft-owned franchises.

Meanwhile, references tied the plan to titles such as Fallout, Doom, Fable, Halo, Gears, Hellblade, Ori, State of Decay, Psychonauts, and The Elder Scrolls Online. Redphx also added on a previous thread that “Games in the TRITON program will be included in the DUET subscription.”

Xbox Game Pass Triton and Duet May Target Lower-Cost Users

Duet has separately been linked to a possible Netflix bundle, though no partnership has been announced. If accurate, the plan could combine selected Xbox content with a streaming subscription in an effort to broaden Game Pass appeal.

The leak arrives amid ongoing discussion around Game Pass pricing. In a memo obtained by The Verge, EVP and CEO of Xbox, Asha Sharma, reportedly said the service had “become too expensive for players” and that the existing model is not absolute.

Any capped cloud tier would resemble NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW system. NVIDIA introduced a 100-hour monthly allowance for paid members, with additional hours sold separately.

Still, the backend references suggest Microsoft is reviewing lower-cost Game Pass options while managing cloud demand and subscription pressure.
