A new leak suggests Microsoft is preparing a lower-cost Xbox Game Pass tier, tentatively called the “Starter Edition,” with a catalog of more than 50 games at launch. Reports indicate the plan could arrive by mid-May 2026, following Microsoft’s April 24, 2026, announcement, adding 15 day-one titles across Game Pass tiers.
According to Dealabs and leaker billbil-kun, the Starter Edition will include 58 games spanning major franchises and indie titles. The list features:

Notably, Doom 64 and Psychonauts (Windows 10) are expected to be included in the Starter Edition despite being absent from the Essential tier. By contrast, Goat Simulator, which remains available in Essential until April 30, is not expected to be offered in Starter at launch.
The tier was first identified through Xbox Cloud Gaming’s datamined code, with further indications emerging from a leaked promotional image tied to Discord Nitro. One report by Dealabs Magazine described “the imminent arrival of a brand new subscription formula,” signaling a shift in how Game Pass could be structured going forward.
Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition Features, Limits, and Catalog Differences
The Starter Edition is expected to differ from existing plans in several ways.
Reports suggest it will offer more than 50 games, but introduce a 10-hour monthly cap on cloud streaming access. It may also exclude online multiplayer functionality on consoles, making it the only console Game Pass tier without that feature.
Despite these restrictions, the subscription is claimed to support console, PC, and other compatible devices, while offering in-game benefits and rewards integration. The catalog will largely overlap with Game Pass Essential, but with some differences in availability and rotation.
Meanwhile, free-to-play titles such as Call of Duty: Warzone are also not expected to carry a starter-specific tag.
Microsoft has not officially confirmed the Starter Edition tier yet. However, promotional material leaks, code discoveries, and a near-complete game list point to a launch that could expand Game Pass access at a lower entry point.
