The long-anticipated live-action adaptation of the Blue Lock manga is officially set to open on Aug 7, 2026, according to a press release from Feb 7. As per the latest announcement, Masataka Kubota joins the cast as Jinpachi Ego, the architect of the Blue Lock Project, whose philosophies fuel the manga's core narrative.

The production has already revealed 12 key actors in the past few weeks, highlighting a near-complete ensemble for the production produced by CREDEUS and distributed by Toho. The production team also confirmed that the Blue Lock live-action movie was filmed with the full cooperation of the Japan Football Association (JFA) and J.League.

The film was shot in J-Village soccer field in Fukushima Prefecture. Former Japan national team player, Daisuke Matsui, supervised soccer mechanics during the filming and training of the actors attached to the Blue Lock movie.

The project’s first major casting wave confirmed Fumiya Takahashi as protagonist Yoichi Isagi. Following Takahashi, additional casting included Kaito Sakurai as Meguru Bachira, Kyōhei Takahashi as Hyōma Chigiri, Kota Nomura as Rensuke Kunigami, and Yuzu Aoki as Gurimu Igarashi.

Subsequent announcements added Sho Nishigaki (Asahi Naruhaya), Yuki Tachibana (Gin Gagamaru), Raizo Ishikawa (Jingo Raichi), Joey Iwanaga (Okuhito Iemon), Shunya Asano (Wataru Kuon), Yuki Sakurai (Yudai Imamura), and Yuki Kura (Ryosuke Kira).

Kubota, the actor portraying Ego, stated that he feels excited about his role in the movie and hopes that the audience will come to the theater to witness the story behind ever-evolving characters.

Director Yūsuke Taki gave a glimpse of the grueling practice behind the realism in the movie. Matsui’s statement echoed Taki’s admiration for actors in the movie. He compared their practice session to the soccer players aiming to join Japan's national soccer team.

The Blue Lock live-action movie adapts the popular soccer manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura. The manga, serialized since 2018, has already surpassed 50M copies in circulation worldwide.
