"Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc" has surpassed $68 million at the global box office ahead of its U.S. and U.K. debut Friday, signaling anime's continued ascent as a theatrical force.

The MAPPA production opened with ¥1.25 billion ($8.25 million) in Japan and has generated ¥5.4 billion ($35.64 million) domestically in its first 24 days. After expanding to 13 Asian markets, the film has amassed $68 million worldwide, with South Korea contributing $16.6 million and Taiwan adding $4.6 million.

In Japan, "Reze Arc" drew 272,000 admissions on opening day, generating ¥420 million ($2.77 million). Revenue climbed 6% on its second day to ¥445 million ($2.94 million), with the three-day total reaching ¥1.3 billion ($8.58 million). The film topped Japan's box office for two consecutive weeks following its Sept. 19 release.

Asian Markets Drive Chainsaw Man's International Success

The movie secured the No. 1 spot in South Korea for two straight weekends, earning approximately $1.8 million in its second frame. Distributors deployed K-pop cross-marketing, fan screenings and late-night showings across Southeast Asia and Europe to drive engagement.

Industry observers project a $20 million U.S. opening, though AMC Theatres and Cinemark have reportedly allocated fewer screens than for comparable anime releases.

"Anime isn't niche anymore, it's a mainstream box-office player," film critic Riko Ishida told NHK Entertainment, analyzing the film's blend of stylized violence and romantic themes. The concurrent success of "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle" and "Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc" underscores animation's theatrical viability.

Japanese studios have increasingly pursued simultaneous international rollouts since "Demon Slayer: Mugen Train" grossed $507 million worldwide in 2020. Reze Arc is positioned to become MAPPA's highest-grossing theatrical release.
