  • Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc dethrones Dragon Ball Super: Broly at U.S. box office.
  • Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle sets record as top international film in U.S., overtaking Pokémon and Ghibli hit Spirited Away.
  • Anime’s U.S. success shows it’s now highly mainstream, with audiences looking for deeper, culturally enriched stories.

In a profound shift for the anime box-office rankings, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc (released on October 24,2025), has left behind the all-time champ Dragon Ball Super: Broly, marking what fans deem to be "the end of an era."

Dragon Ball Super: Broly has been on top of the charts for nearly a decade, with a lifetime U.S. gross of ~ $30.7 million USD and a worldwide gross collection of $115 million USD. However, Chainsaw Man’s cumulative U.S. collection hit $30.8 million USD in just over two weeks, proving that it had long surpassed the former, despite having a weak start.

The Gradual Rise of the Chainsaw Man Movie

During the Halloween weekend (Friday, October 31 to Sunday, November 2, 2025), the Chainsaw Man movie earned ~ $6 million USD in the U.S. theatres. This depicts a 66.7% drop from its earlier opening-weekend gross.

This decline in collection is similar to that of Demon Slayer Infinity Castle (-69.5%), however, better than Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (-74.5%). Analysts forecast that if Chainsaw Man continues this run, the movie could conclude at a total gross of $40 million – $45 million in the U.S. theatres.

The movie grossed $108.2 million outside of the U.S. with a total collection of $139 million worldwide, including the U.S market. According to previous data, the film earned ¥420 million (~ $2.84 million USD) on its debut in Japan and ¥1.25 billion (~ $8.46 million USD) over its first weekend.

Other Groundbreaking Anime Releases in the U.S.

Notably, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has also set a record at the U.S. box office by becoming the highest-grossing international film. As per Box Office Mojo, the movie earned $128.6 million USD, which is just a little bit over the earnings of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon ($128.5 million USD), which was a groundbreaking Asian release in the American market in the 2000s.

Not only that, but Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle also left behind other anime hits like Your Name, Spirited Away, and Suzume. The movie even surpassed the record for the biggest U.S. opening of an anime film, which was held by 1999’s Pokémon: The First Movie

These numbers confirm that America has always been fascinated by anime films, but the current success of Chainsaw Man and Demon Slayer movies depicts something more. It shows that people are not only excited about the Japanese animation but also are looking for a deeper narrative that integrates culture. This also shows that anime is no longer a niche. It is increasingly becoming more mainstream, prompting various nations to reevaluate their entertainment sector.
