Highlights

  • Prime Video Japan will stream Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and Dragon Ball Kai together from June 15, 2026.
  • The June lineup also adds complete anime catalogs, including Gintama, Kuroko’s Basketball, and The Devil Is a Part-Timer!
  • Amazon is strengthening its anime streaming strategy through legacy franchises as competition with Netflix and Crunchyroll intensifies.

Amazon Prime Video Japan will stream four classic Dragon Ball series from June 15, 2026, according to the platform's official June lineup. This marks the first time Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and Dragon Ball Kai have been available together on Prime Video in Japan. Dragon Ball Daima and Super are already available on the streamer.

The Dragon Ball franchise remains one of anime’s most commercially successful properties; it generated $134.2M revenue in 2025, nearly four decades after its television debut. Created by Akira Toriyama and produced by Toei Animation, the IP has expanded across television sequels, films, games, and merchandise lines, maintaining strong global demand for generations.

The Dragon Ball TV anime integration is part of Prime Video’s broader content expansion initiative in Japan for the month of June. Alongside this Big 3 title, the platform will bring several complete anime catalogs, including the complete Gintama anime series. Apart from these, Prime Video will also stream multiple TBS drama titles, a new Prime Original series, and several exclusive film premieres starting in June.

Prime Video Japan’s June Anime Lineup Includes More Than Dragon Ball Franchise

Earlier this year, Prime Video confirmed upcoming new titles, including the Ghost in the Shell anime project (July 2026) and the Fist of the North Star: Hokuto no Ken reboot (April 2026). In addition to these, the June lineup brings older, already released anime series in complete volumes.

Starting from June, all four seasons and other extensions of Gintama, both Ishura seasons, and Blue Flowers will be available, among others. Following them on June 8 are all three seasons of popular sports anime Kuroko’s Basketball.

Both seasons of The Devil Is a Part-Timer! will join the Dragon Ball rollout on June 15. On the film side, Prime Video exclusively debuts LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE: The Immortal Bloodline on June 27.

For the platform, securing multiple classic titles like Dragon Ball and Gintama strengthens its anime credentials at a time when competition for high-profile Japanese anime is intensifying. The global anime streaming market was valued at $7.5 billion USD in 2025 and is projected to double by 2030, according to a Nikkei Asia report.

Crunchyroll and Netflix are already heavy on anime streaming, one with an anime-niche library, and the latter with seasonal hits and global audience reach. Prime Video, on the other hand, has pursued a classic catalogue-depth strategy, securing rights to legacy titles. Along with that, having the entire Dragon Ball run in one place also addresses a longstanding fragmentation problem for fans.
