The collaborative single ICONIC BY MISTAKE by LE SSERAFIM, ILLIT, and KATSEYE has debuted at No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100, thereby confirming the commercial viability of HYBE’s multi-label ecosystem on a global scale. Released on June 12, the track marks a critical milestone for all three girl groups involved. For industry stakeholders, the debut of such a single signifies that collaborations within their own ecosystem can successfully consolidate fanbases of their artists to dominate the upper echelons of the world's largest music markets.

HYBE Achieves Billboard Success Beyond Hot 100 with ICONIC BY MISTAKE 

The entry of ICONIC BY MISTAKE marks the fourth Hot 100 hit for Source Music's LE SSERAFIM, the second for Belift Lab's ILLIT, and the fifth for KATSEYE, the global group formed via a joint venture between HYBE and Geffen Records. Beyond the chart that assesses the domestic US market, ICONIC BY MISTAKE entered at No. 25 on the Billboard Global 200 and No. 22 on the Global Excl US chart. 

The song also secured a No. 22 position in the UK Official Singles Chart, showcasing that the song has significant traction in one of Europe’s most notable nations. Additionally, consumer engagement has driven the song’s music video past 40 million views on YouTube within its first two weeks, whereas its dance practice video has crossed 9M in ten days.

Directed by Cody Critcheloe, the music video has a strong message that uses cryptic visuals, by moving past the usual pop imagery. According to a statement by Critcheloe, the music video challenges traditional beauty standards by “reinforcing the idea that mistakes, accidents, and imperfections can become part of what makes someone iconic.”

LE SSERAFIM, ILLIT and KATSEYE: Previous Milestones Complement Recent Success

The release combines the unique strengths and recent successes of all three acts. LE SSERAFIM participated in the project following their high-profile appearances at Coachella and the MTV Video Music Awards, both in the year 2024. The release comes amidst the launch of their studio album PUREFLOW pt. 1 and an upcoming world tour. 

Whereas, ILLIT took part in the project, after rapidly strengthening its presence on global charts since the launch of its debut single, Magnetic in 2024. Notably, the song entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 91 and became the first debut song by a K-pop group to reach the chart. Such is ILLIT’s momentum that their fourth mini-album, MAMIHLAPINATAPAI, debuted at No. 26 on the Billboard 200, marking the group's highest position on the chart to date.

On the other hand, KATSEYE recently wrapped up their sold-out first North American tour and launched their latest single, PINKY UP, live for the very first time during their first-ever performance at Coachella. Additionally, the group has its third EP, WILD, set for release on August 14, 2026.

HYBE's Multi-Label Strategy Soars with the New Hit

While speaking on the success, HYBE, in a separate statement cited by The Korea Times, said that they are “grateful that this project, prepared as a gift to expand boundaries between artists and labels and to bring enjoyment to their fans worldwide, has led to strong results.” HYBE regarded the song's performance as a remarkable feat achieved, since it was released exclusively as a digital single, without a physical album. In the upcoming days, the label hopes that fans and the wider audience will provide their continued support for all three acts.
