IVE's Record Show in New Zealand Signals K-pop Boom in Oceania
The group's latest overseas success is reshaping expectations in a market that was previously deemed secondary.
Highlights
- A record-breaking crowd at IVE's Auckland concert signals a turning point for K-pop in the overlooked touring market of Oceania.
- Behind the sold-out shows is a wider industry shift that is redefining how global tours are planned across the region.
- IVE's latest milestone depicts more than fan demand, it points to the group's evolving nature as a global touring powerhouse.
South Korean girl group IVE’s concert has become one of the highest-selling K-pop events in New Zealand’s history on June 19, 2026. As reported by Rolling Stone, the show drew more than 8,000 fans to Auckland’s Spark Arena, which highlights the rapid commercial expansion of East Asian pop music into the Australasian touring market, a sector that was historically treated as an auxiliary destination for key international acts.
As per tour promoter Live Nation New Zealand, live “Asia Pop” bookings across Australia and New Zealand have increased by 600% since 2015. The remarkable demand for IVE's Auckland stop, which was a part of their 19-country Show What I Am world tour, showcases this shifting consumer landscape.
"The demand we saw from the moment tickets went on sale made clear this would be a record-breaking night," said Wenona Lok, Live Nation Australasia’s senior promoter and Asia Pop talent buyer, to Rolling Stone Australia. Lok observed that the event acted as a fundamental milestone for K-pop's viability in New Zealand, indicating deeper regional integration for the genre.
IVE's Million-Selling Success Drives Global Growth
The Starship Entertainment group, which is composed of members An Yu-jin, Gaeul, Rei, Jang Won-young, Liz, and Leeseo, has maintained significant commercial momentum since their 2021 debut single, Eleven. IVE, notably, also has seven consecutive million-selling albums in its 5-year-long career and was named in Forbes Asia’s 2024 “30 Under 30” list. With such success under its belt, the group has established itself as a core corporate and cultural export.
IVE's Australia-New Zealand Tour Signals K-pop Expansion
The record-setting Auckland performance comes after high-capacity arena dates in Australia, which also included a June 13 showcase at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena and another stop in Melbourne. Korean media outlet The Chosun Daily reported that the Australasian leg was based on a highly structured narrative staging and unique solo performances, alongside a production plan which was built to scale the group's local identity for multi-national audiences.
For industry stakeholders, the financial and operational success of IVE’s tour depicts the growing geographical footprint of K-pop’s touring model. As regional structures progressively adapt to the high-density production requirements, Oceania is on its way to becoming a standard fixture for top-tier global acts instead of an optional market outlier.
