Jujutsu Kaisen Crunchyroll Version Updated to Blu-ray Cut
JJK season 2 on Crunchyroll now streams without broadcast dimming and ghosting.
Highlights
- Crunchyroll replaces TV cut with Blu-ray version of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2.
- Dimming and ghosting filters were removed, restoring intended visuals.
- Redrawn scenes and animation fixes added ahead of the Season 3 premiere.
Crunchyroll has replaced the TV broadcast cut of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 with its Blu-ray edition. The update represents a notable change to the version of Jujutsu Kaisen currently streaming on Crunchyroll. The change was first highlighted in a Reddit PSA, which confirms that Jujutsu Kaisen updates on Crunchyroll removed the dimming and ghosting effects present during the original television run.
The update aligns with Toho Animation’s December 2025 plan to refresh streaming footage ahead of season 3. At the time, the company encouraged viewers to “take this opportunity to enjoy the series once again.”
The original TV version included brightness reduction and ghosting filters. These measures became standard in Japanese broadcasting after the 1997 Pokémon episode Dennō Senshi Porygon triggered widespread photosensitive seizures. The incident led networks to impose stricter limits on rapid flashing lights and high-contrast visual effects.
According to some viewers, certain scenes now feel entirely different, highlighting the scale of the changes to the Crunchyroll version of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Jujutsu Kaisen Crunchyroll Changes Restore Blu-ray Animation Quality
Beyond removing broadcast filters, the Blu-ray cut incorporates visible JJK animation changes tied to production constraints during season 2. While the “Hidden Inventory” arc drew early praise, later episodes were impacted by compressed schedules.
However, staff were reportedly given four days to complete complex scenes, and episode 17’s Sukuna versus Mahoraga fight aired only “30% complete.” Meanwhile, animators Vincent Chansard and Dorian Coulon later described the environment as a “nightmare” and “hellish.”
The Blu-ray revisions include redrawn frames and corrected anatomy, including fixes to Toji Fushiguro’s face in Episode 15. They also feature enhanced detailing for Mahoraga and newly added sequences.
Crunchyroll’s 2026 update to Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 comes as season 3, The Culling Game, premiered on Jan 8, 2026. The rollout followed a theatrical event, Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, which screened the first two episodes ahead of the broadcast.
