Highlights
- Jujutsu Kaisen ranks No.1 on the Circana BookScan list and dominates the NYT charts.
- JJK’s strong back-catalog sales, including volume 1, highlight sustained reader demand even after the manga’s conclusion.
- The rankings reflect broader U.S. manga growth, with titles like Gachiakuta and Solo Leveling gaining traction alongside JJK.
Jujutsu Kaisen (JJK) has strengthened its position as one of manga’s biggest global franchises after topping multiple U.S. bestseller rankings in both April and May. JJK manga topped Circana BookScan's Top 20 adult graphic novels list for April 2026, while also appearing on The New York Times' monthly Graphic Books and Manga bestseller list for May.
Circana BookScan collects weekly point-of-sale data across 16K U.S. locations, covering approximately 85% of the trade print book market. On the April list, 16 manga volumes appeared, topping other publications. On a separate Circana chart, the Top 20 Manga Graphic Novels chart, Viz Media's JJK claimed nine of the 20 slots in the same period.
On both Circana and NYT’s Graphic Books and Manga bestseller lists, multiple JJK volumes featured, with volume 29 claiming the highest spots. It ranked at sixth position on the NYT bestseller list, along with Kei Urana's Gachiakuta manga at No 9.
The rankings reflect sustained commercial momentum for a franchise whose manga run closed in September 2024. The JJK franchise has already surpassed 150M copies in circulation as of December 2025, including digital editions.
Jujutsu Kaisen Manga's Back-Catalog Demand Points Toward Active Reader Pipeline
What sets JJK's U.S. chart performances apart is the simultaneous presence of its back-catalog and recent volumes. Volume 1of JJK has repeatedly ranked alongside the newest releases across both the NYT and Bookscan charts.
On the Top 20 adult graphic novels list, eight JJK volumes have been featured, with four of them positioned among the top ten. JJK volumes have ranked consistently on the NYT’s chart throughout January to April.
On BookScan’s Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels list for 2025, three JJK volumes, 26, 25, and 1, ranked in the top three positions respectively, reflecting sustained year-round sales and demand.
Along with JJK’s rise to popularity, Gachiakuta's recurring chart presence in the U.S. through early 2026 reflects demand for new action-driven IPs. Gachiakuta Vol. 1 ranked fourth on Circana BookScan’s Top 20 Adult Graphic Novels for April.
On the other hand, multiple Solo Leveling volumes appeared in BookScan's Top 20 Author Graphic Novels category for April 2026. Overall, the current chart positioning of manga in the U.S. book market reflects how top-tier Japanese franchises are competing alongside mainstream Western publications in the country.
