Netflix Sets Release Date for One Piece Heroines Anime Special
The anime special adapting the One Piece Heroines novels arrives globally days after its Japanese television debut.
Highlights

- The anime adapts from Jun Esaka’s One Piece Heroines novels, with the first special focusing on Nami.
- The release expands Netflix’s growing One Piece catalog, which already includes the original anime.
Netflix has confirmed that the upcoming One Piece spin-off, ONE PIECE HEROINES, will drop on the platform on July 11, following its premiere in Japan. The Netflix release will follow the special’s scheduled Japanese television debut on Fuji TV on July 5 and streaming debut on Crunchyroll on the same day.
The anime special adapts Jun Esaka’s One Piece Heroines light novel series, illustrated by Sua Sayaka. Heroines is a female-characters-focused spin-off of Eiichiro Oda’s long-running One Piece franchise.
One Piece Heroines novels feature standalone stories centered on female characters, including Nami, Nico Robin, Princess Vivi, and Perona. The first animated special adapts the first chapter from the novel series, centering on Nami, the first introduced heroine in Oda’s franchise.
One Piece Heroines: A New Character-Driven Narrative in Netflix’s One Piece Portfolio
Directed by Haruka Kamatani, the One Piece spin-off Heroines offers a character-driven narrative instead of the action-adventure setting of the original series. The plot follows Nami after she purchases a pair of ill-fitting shoes, which sends her back to a shop.
One Piece Heroines progresses as she encounters designer Lebno and artisan Miucha in the shop, with Lebno offering to make a custom pair in exchange for Nami modelling for him. Robin also appears in the narrative. Takahi Kojima serves as character designer and animation director, with Momoa Toyoda writing the screenplay.
For Netflix, the Heroines special expands the streamer’s One Piece ecosystem, which already includes parts of Toei’s main One Piece series, the acclaimed One Piece Live-Action, and WIT's upcoming One Piece remake. Heroines marks another case where the streamer tries offering franchise extensions to consolidate the entire One Piece franchise in one place, which helps both longtime fans and newer viewers.
The spin-off arrives as One Piece continues to demonstrate exceptional global reach across all formats. Oda’s manga has surpassed 600M copies in circulation worldwide, as of 2026. To commemorate the One Piece Heroines release, Toei has already announced two separate merchandise lines tied to the franchise in Japan.
