SEVENTEEN Celebrates 11th Year With UNESCO Donation in Laos
From Laos classrooms to Timor-Leste learning centers, SEVENTEEN continues to donate in UNESCO-backed education campaigns.
Highlights
- SEVENTEEN celebrated its 11th anniversary by donating to students in Laos struggling with school-related fees.
- The group's initial effort grew into a global UNESCO partnership, leading to SEVENTEEN becoming their first Youth Goodwill Ambassador in 2024.
- Amidst this drive, members The 8 and Vernon will debut as new sub-unit V8 on June 29, while pairing the release with concerts.
The K-pop group SEVENTEEN, which debuted in 2015, celebrated its 11th anniversary Tuesday (May 26, 2026) by donating to the Korean National Commission for UNESCO's (KNCU) Bridge Program. Notably, the initiative helps Laotian students with primary school diplomas transition to secondary school. Although secondary education in Laos is technically free, the main issue lies in the miscellaneous fees, which most families cannot afford to pay.
How Did SEVENTEEN's UNESCO Pivot Begin?
What started as a regional project with Pledis Entertainment under the #GoingTogether campaign, scaled worldwide a year later, when UNESCO formally joined the partnership in November 2023. Since then, the campaign has funded a dedicated session with the group, two community learning centers in Timor-Leste, and education programs in Malawi. After such continued effort together, in June 2024, UNESCO appointed SEVENTEEN as its first-ever Goodwill Ambassador for Youth.
The 13-member global K-pop group built its name on viral hooks and high-energy choreography, with a catalog spanning early hits like ADORE U (2015) and VERY NICE (2016) to recent releases MAESTRO (2024) and THUNDER (2025). But alongside their discography, a parallel record has quietly taken shape, one that is measured with goodwill and not chart positions.
SEVENTEEN Launches New Sub-unit Amidst the Donation Drive
Amidst this global donation drive, SEVENTEEN continues to expand its commercial architecture. Pledis Entertainment announced Thursday (May 28, 2026) that group members, The 8 and Vernon, will debut as a new sub-unit, V8. The duo’s debut album is set to release on June 29. Post the sub-unit’s album release, the duo will immediately perform in concerts at Goyang’s Kintex on July 11–12 and Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo on July 18–19, 2026.
