The videogame industry generated more than $187 billion in revenue in 2024, driven by growth across PC, console and mobile gaming, according to research firm Newzoo. The biggest companies include Microsoft Gaming, Tencent Games, and Sony Interactive Corporation continue to lead the sector. Here are the five largest game companies by revenue as of June 2025.
Tencent Games
Chinese technology conglomerate Tencent remains the world's largest game publisher by revenue. The company's gaming division generated $27.34 billion in 2024, according to its fourth-quarter earnings report.
Tencent's dominance stems largely from mobile gaming, the industry's biggest segment. Popular titles including "Honor of Kings" and "PUBG Mobile" maintain strong positions across Asia. The company's ownership stake in Riot Games provides revenue from global hits such as "League of Legends" and "Valorant."
Microsoft Gaming
Microsoft's gaming division, anchored by Xbox consoles and the Game Pass subscription service, generated about $21.5 billion in revenue in 2024, a 39% increase from the previous year, according to the company's fourth-quarter earnings. The growth was driven by Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard and expanding Game Pass subscriptions.
"Call of Duty: Black Ops 6," which launched in October 2024, became one of Game Pass's most successful day-one releases. In May 2025, Microsoft released "Doom: The Dark Ages" across Xbox, PC and Sony's PlayStation 5, signaling the company's strategy to distribute games across multiple platforms.
Sony Interactive Entertainment
Sony Interactive Entertainment
Sony's PlayStation division reported 4.67 trillion yen ($28.6 billion) in revenue for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, a 9% increase from the previous year. Operating profit surged 43% to 415 billion yen ($2.5 billion).
While PlayStation 5 hardware sales remained steady, software and digital services drove most of the growth. Sony has prioritized subscription services and its digital storefront as core revenue drivers.
Nintendo
Nintendo Co. reported nearly 1.67 trillion yen (about $11 billion USD) in combined hardware and software revenue for fiscal 2024 without releasing new gaming hardware. The company launched the Nintendo Switch 2 in June 2025, selling 3.5 million units in the first four days.
The new console is designed to support a broader range of games, including major third-party titles alongside Nintendo's exclusive franchises.
Electronic Arts
Electronic Arts Inc. reported $7.46 billion in revenue for its fiscal year ended March 31, 2025. Live services, which include in-game purchases and subscriptions, accounted for 73% of total revenue.
EA faced challenges in 2024 when "EA Sports FC 25," its flagship soccer game, received poor player feedback, leading to reduced revenue forecasts and a 15% stock decline by early 2025. However, "EA College Football 25" exceeded $1 billion in bookings during fiscal 2024.
The company plans to relaunch its "Battlefield" franchise as a live-service game while continuing to update its sports titles.
