Highlights

  • Delhi government to launch India’s first AVGC-XR centre focused on gaming and VFX jobs.
  • Centre to operate under the National Centre of Excellence framework for immersive technologies.
  • The plan aims to retain talent and grow Delhi’s creative economy.

The Delhi government will establish the country’s first dedicated centre for animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC-XR) to create jobs for young talent and strengthen the Indian gaming industry. Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, announced the plan while addressing a Republic Day ceremony on Jan 26, 2026.

The facility will function as a regional institute under the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for immersive technologies and is aimed at generating employment while retaining local creative talent.

“Now, the creative talent of Delhi need not migrate to other places,” Gupta said, adding that the capital would emerge as a “job capital through AVGC” and attract foreign studios.

The Union government approved the NCoE on immersive technologies in Mumbai in 2024, with regional centres planned in other cities.

Delhi’s proposed centre will align with that framework while supporting a broader policy push. Officials said the Delhi government is formulating an AVGC-XR policy and studying models adopted by states such as Maharashtra to develop a roadmap suited to the city’s ecosystem.

In October 2025, the Delhi tourism department collaborated with Netflix for a public screening of the animated series Kurukshetra, with officials indicating that additional initiatives are planned.

Officials stated the initiative is intended to boost Delhi’s creative economy, expand gaming and VFX jobs, and position the capital as a long-term content hub within India’s digital and immersive technology sectors.
