The day has finally arrived for classic MMO fans: the legendary 21-year-old online fantasy world is officially in the palm of your hand. Developer ArenaNet and publisher NCSoft have globally launched Guild Wars Reforged on the Apple App Store and Google Play. This monumental mobile release brings the complete, modernized version of the beloved 2005 classic directly to smartphones and tablets, featuring full cross-play and cross-progression with the existing PC and Steam Deck versions.
“Starting today, you can play Guild Wars Reforged on the go! Simply download and play for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play,” the studio announced in a official news release. For the very first time, players can explore the shared world of Tyria seamlessly across PC and mobile devices. Squeezing such a complex, tactical PC role-playing game onto smaller screens must have required a massive technical overhaul.
The team reportedly has completely redesigned the user interface for touchscreen audiences, adding customizable new HD skill icons, a new quest tracker, high-DPI support, and native controller integration. Despite the new platform, it still offers the same deep, strategic MMO experience where you can craft unique builds from ten professions and mix thousands of skills, armor sets, and weapons.
Seamless Cross-Progression for Existing Players
If you are an existing player, the transition is incredibly seamless and entirely free. Returning players can log straight into the game on their phones and tablets using their existing ArenaNet credentials to immediately sync their characters, items, and previously purchased campaigns. Existing owners automatically receive a completely ad-free experience without having to buy any of their content a second time. You can literally pause your session on a home PC setup and seamlessly pick up your exact same save on your smartphone during your daily commute.
To keep the entry barrier low for newbies while respecting the game's original community, ArenaNet went with an accessible, buy-to-play model rather than leaning into aggressive live-service microtransactions. Newcomers can download the base mobile client for free and jump into the original Prophecies campaign, which is supported by mild advertisements that only appear during loading screens.
As they go, players can make a one-time purchase of $6.99 per campaign to permanently ditch the ads and unlock full account features, like public chat and player trading. The standalone Factions and Nightfall campaigns cost $6.99 each, while the Eye of the North expansion is priced at $9.99 and the Bonus Mission Pack at $5.99.
There is just one minor technical hurdle to keep in mind before you download. Currently, mobile players who create a brand-new Mobile ID cannot link that specific ID directly to a Steam account. If you plan on cross-playing between PC and mobile long-term, your best bet is to create a standard, email-based ArenaNet account directly through the developer rather than going through Steam. Since the game and the franchise are clearly getting some serious long-term love, it is a safe bet that this classic MMO will continue thriving for a fresh generation of gamers.
