Highlights

  • LVL Zero reports 66.8% of applicants were founded in 2024 or later, with 46.9% in 2025.
  • The data shows three-to-four-member micro-studios as the dominant structure.
  • The company finds over 30% planned live ops early, while 22.8% adopted AI tools.

LVL Zero has received more than 240 applications for its inaugural incubator cohort, offering a snapshot of India’s expanding early-stage game development ecosystem. Backed by Nazara Technologies, MIXI Global Investments, and Chimera VC, the program opened on Jan 26. It drew submissions across PC, console, mobile, and gaming infrastructure.

Nearly 66.8% of applicants were founded in 2024 or later. Among them, 46.9% were established in 2025, indicating a rapid influx of new studios.

Micro-studios with teams of three to four developers now form the dominant structure. The applicant data also shows growing interest in premium platforms, with 58.5% building for PC and 36.1% targeting consoles.

However, mobile studios continue to ship faster. About 25% of mobile-only teams already operate live products, compared with lower release rates among PC and console-focused developers.

LVL Zero Applications Show Early Focus on Live Ops, Analytics, and AI

More than 30% of applicants cited retention metrics, live operations, or user acquisition strategies during the design phase, signaling a shift to data-led planning.

AI adoption is also increasing, with 22.8% integrating machine learning or generative tools into development pipelines. These trends indicate that early-stage founders are embedding scalability and analytics earlier in production.

LVL Zero will select 10 startups for the cohort, each receiving a $10K USD equity-free grant and a 100-day development sprint to move from prototype to market-ready products.

Sagar Nair, head of incubation at LVL Zero, stated that the applicant pool reflects “a new formation phase” for India’s gaming ecosystem. He also added that the next generation of studios will be defined by how effectively they convert strong prototypes into scalable products.
