Microsoft is updating Xbox across PC and cloud gaming for faster performance and a redesigned interface for TVs, web, and VR headsets. Announced on Nov 5, 2026, the changes introduce improved game discovery, faster loading, and navigation updates, with the PC version initially available to Xbox Insiders.
Jason Beaumont, VP of Xbox Experiences, noted that the changes are part of Microsoft's effort to make Xbox "faster, simpler, and more familiar" across platforms. Asha Sharma also confirmed the Windows improvements on X, describing the performance gains as meaningful while acknowledging that further work remains.
Xbox PC App Update Improves Performance and Navigation
Microsoft's internal testing reports the following performance improvements:
- In-app windows open up to 65% faster.
- App launch times are up to 60% faster.
- Home, Store, and Game Pass pages load up to 50% faster.
The company cautioned that results may vary depending on the internet connection, device, system configuration, and usage.
The redesign also introduces simplified library navigation, updated filters, and additional game organization options. Friends and social features now occupy the main navigation, providing access to gaming activity, chats, and parties. Search covers games, add-ons, installed titles, and people.
Refreshed game cards, Settings, Home, and animations complete the interface changes.
What’s Changing in Xbox Cloud Gaming?
Microsoft previously invited Xbox Insiders to preview its refreshed cloud gaming website. The updated experience will automatically reach more players over the next few weeks, with early access available at play.xbox.com.
Its additions include:
- Desktop mode: Uses larger PC displays more effectively.
- Accessibility and customization: Adds dark and light modes alongside five high-contrast options.
- Library: Combines owned cloud-playable games and Xbox Game Pass titles, with filters for recently played games, genres, and input options.
The company has not confirmed a general PC rollout date. It says player feedback will continue to influence improvements across its platforms.
