Discord Takes Social Layer to Mobile With New Gaming Tools
Mobile gaming gets broader social and commerce features through Discord’s latest platform expansion.
Highlights
- Discord’s Social Layer is now available on iOS and Android after reporting stronger PC player retention and engagement.
- Play Quest+ will launch with Battlefield 6, rewarding players for completing specific in-game actions.
- Discord is expanding social commerce and preparing game stats widgets for deeper game discovery and engagement.
Discord has made its Social Layer generally available on iOS and Android after recording higher engagement across PC games using the technology. The company reported that its causal study found a 31% increase in player retention.
It also recorded session lengths rising by up to 47% and game launch days increasing by up to 57%.
Discord Brings Social Layer to Mobile
The study covered more than 15 PC games launched since December 2024, based on Discord’s internal data from Mar 31, 2026. The company refined Social Layer features for smaller screens and mobile play, allowing developers to bring Discord-powered social experiences to players on the go.
The expansion was announced Aug 20, 2026, alongside several tools focused on game discovery, engagement, and monetization.
Discord and Electronic Arts (EA) will launch the first Play Quest+ campaign with Battlefield 6 in September 2026. The rewarded advertising format builds on Play Quest, introduced in 2024, by rewarding actions such as completing a tutorial, finishing a match, or playing with friends.
It uses Discord’s Social SDK and Events API, while players who accept the quest and link their Discord and EA accounts can unlock rewards through gameplay. Discord noted that Quests have recorded a 96% median completion rate, according to company data. Meanwhile, EA Senior Vice President of Global Marketing, Andrea Hopelain, stated that Play Quest was important in “getting more players in and keeping them engaged for longer,” with Play Quest+ designed to build on that approach.

Discord Expands Game Commerce and Profiles
Ninja Kiwi and Facepunch Studios have joined Discord’s Social Commerce program. Bloons TD 6 items can be purchased and gifted through Discord, while Facepunch Studios has launched its own Game Shop on the platform for Rust players.
Nearly one in four first-week buyers returned for another purchase, based on data from May 7 to July 6, 2026.
Discord is also preparing game stats widgets for claimed game communities. Players will be able to display characters, scores, and achievements on their profile board. Linked accounts will connect the widgets to official game profiles.
Discord’s expansion reflects the growing role of social infrastructure in driving player retention, game discovery, and engagement beyond the core gameplay experience.
