Microsoft and Mojang Studios have set Sept 29, 2026, as the release date for Minecraft Dungeons II, the sequel to the 2020 action role-playing game (RPG) spin-off. The announcement was made during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, alongside a new gameplay trailer that revealed fresh environments, cooperative gameplay features, enemy encounters, and pre-order details.
The game will launch on PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one and support Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing players to access the game across Xbox consoles and PC with a single purchase.
Minecraft Dungeons II Expands the Action RPG Formula
Minecraft Dungeons II takes players into unexplored regions of the Minecraft universe as a new threat spreads across multiple worlds. Microsoft previously described the sequel as "an all-new action-RPG adventure" featuring high-stakes encounters, new locations, and larger challenges than those seen in the original game.
The official game description urges players to "drop the pickaxe, grab a sword, and charge into a thrilling new adventure" as they battle through hordes of mobs and attempt to stop a growing force of evil. Players will be able to customize their heroes with weapons, talismans, armor, artifacts, and other gear collected throughout the journey.
Gameplay footage showcased new enemy types, large-scale combat encounters, environmental hazards, and expanded character progression systems. The campaign can be played solo or with up to three additional players through online or couch co-op.
Pre-Orders Open Ahead of September Launch
Pre-orders are now available, with participating retailers offering two hero skins, the Twisted Cape, and the Twisted Chicken pet as bonuses for early purchases through Sep 28, 2026.
The Standard Edition is priced at $29.99 USD and is included with Game Pass. A $49.99 Deluxe Edition adds the Soul Cape, the Blub pet, four additional hero skins, and access to two future downloadable content (DLC) expansions when they become available.
The original Minecraft Dungeons launched in 2020 as Mojang's take on the dungeon-crawling action RPG genre.
Meanwhile, industry reviews noted that it did not attempt to reinvent the formula; the game built a sizable audience by adapting Minecraft's universe into a cooperative loot-driven adventure. With broader platform support, new locations, and a larger-scale story, Minecraft Dungeons II marks the franchise's major return after six years.
