Highlights

  • Switch 2 is now Nintendo's second-fastest-selling home console in the U.K., behind only the Wii.
  • The console ranks as the joint sixth fastest-selling home console in U.K. history.
  • Global sales reached 19.86M units, with Switch 2 remaining ahead of the original Switch, PS4, and PS5 on a launch-aligned basis.

Nintendo Switch 2 has surpassed 1M units sold in the U.K., reaching the milestone in 52 weeks. The feat makes it one of the country's fastest-selling home consoles. It also achieved the mark 30 weeks faster than the original Switch, despite the U.K. traditionally being a weaker market for Nintendo.

According to figures reported by The Game Business, the console achieved the mark 30 weeks faster than the original Nintendo Switch, which took 82 weeks to sell 1M units in the U.K. The result places Switch 2 alongside Xbox One and makes it Nintendo's second-fastest home console in the region behind only the Wii.

Switch 2 Outpaces Original Console in Key Market

The latest sales milestone makes Switch 2 the joint sixth fastest-selling home console in the U.K. history. Only the Wii, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 2 reached 1M sales more quickly.

The performance stands out because the U.K. has historically been a more challenging market for Nintendo than several other major territories. While the original Switch ranks as the second best-selling console worldwide, it sits fifth in lifetime U.K. sales behind PlayStation 2, Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 4.

Nintendo's latest financial results indicate that momentum remains strong globally.

The company sold an additional 2.49M Switch 2 units during the quarter ended March 31, 2026, bringing total worldwide sales to 19.86M units. The platform is currently about 5M units ahead of the original Switch when comparing sales at the same point after launch. It also holds a lead of roughly 6M units over both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on a launch-aligned basis.

Price Increases Arrive as Nintendo Targets Further Growth

The U.K. milestone comes as Nintendo prepares to raise Switch 2 prices in several regions. Beginning September 1, 2026, the console's U.S. price will increase by $50 USD to $499.99, while European pricing will rise by €30 to €499.99. Canada will also see a $50 CAD increase to $679.99.

Nintendo has already implemented price changes in Japan.

Explaining the decision, the company stated that the adjustments were made "in light of changes in market conditions" and after reviewing its global business outlook. Meanwhile, Nintendo has forecast sales of 16.5M additional Switch 2 consoles during its current fiscal year (FY) ending in April 2027. The projection comes after the company sold nearly 20M units in the console's first year.
