Highlights

  • Over $15K worth of Pokémon cards were stolen in a 40-second burglary in Brentwood, California.
  • Three masked suspects targeted high-value booster boxes.
  • Police are investigating the incident as grand theft amid rising concerns in the collectibles market.

A newly opened trading card shop in Brentwood, California, lost more than $15K USD worth of Pokémon cards after a burglary on June 8, 2026. Masked thieves carried out a rapid, targeted raid that lasted under a few seconds. Police are investigating the theft as grand theft, and the suspects are still at large.

According to ABC7 News and NBC Bay Area, three individuals wearing ski masks entered The Card Lab right after closing time. Ring surveillance footage shows them jumping over display counters, grabbing high-value products, and fleeing in a Nissan Altima.

The entire break-in lasted roughly 40 seconds.

High-Value Pokémon Stock Specifically Targeted

The thieves focused on premium Pokémon Trading Card Game inventory. This included a Roaring Skies booster box valued at about $5K, along with Sun and Moon-era boxes priced between $1.5K and $2K each.

Meanwhile, several UPCs and elite trainer boxes were also taken.

Store owner, Ronnie Hackett, stated that the timing and execution suggested preparation and awareness of the store’s layout and stock. The Card Lab had been operating for only about two months before the incident. A manager inside the store during the burglary was upstairs completing end-of-day (EoD) tasks and remained safe.

Security Concerns Grow in Collectibles Market

Hackett spoke about the impact of the theft on the store and its staff, stressing the need for accountability.

He said he wants the people responsible to be found, even if the stolen items are never recovered, because "there have got to be consequences for doing what they're doing." He also added that raising awareness matters to him, so the thieves don't continue targeting other businesses.

Other nearby retailers, including Games of Brentwood, have also reported similar incidents and increased security due to the rising value and ease of resale of trading cards. Authorities continue to investigate the coordinated theft as part of a broader pattern of targeted collectible store break-ins.
