PlayStation Plus subscribers are getting a wonderfully varied lineup of free games this May. Sony has officially pulled the curtain back on the May 2026 essentials, offering a heavy-hitting trio designed to satisfy three completely separate gaming niches. Starting Tuesday, May 5, members across the Essential, Extra, and Premium tiers can claim three massive titles at no additional cost: a blockbuster sports simulator, a dark Soulslike adventure, and a charming but brutal 2D action-platformer.

Here is a closer look at the games coming to your digital library this month:

EA Sports FC 26 (PS4, PS5)

The headliner for this month is the latest entry in Electronic Arts' massive, formerly FIFA-branded football franchise. Released back in September 2025, the game brings an overhauled experience driven by community feedback, letting players choose between slower Authentic Gameplay and faster-paced Competitive presets.

Fans know exactly what to expect from this juggernaut: a refreshed Rivals and Champs experience, over 20,000 players, 750-plus clubs and national teams, more than 120 stadiums, and 35 leagues. As a special bonus, PS Plus members can also claim an exclusive EA Sports FC 26 PlayStation Plus Icons Pack throughout May to give their Football Ultimate Team squads a serious boost.

PlayStation

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers (PS5)

The good news for non-sports fans is that May brings a gritty, dark Soulslike action RPG to balance the lineup. You step into the boots of Wuchang, an amnesiac female pirate warrior navigating the tumultuous final years of China’s Ming Dynasty. The land of Shu is ravaged by warring factions and "Feathering," a mysterious mutation turning people into hideous monsters.

You will need to master various fighting styles, uncover hidden weapons and ancient firearms, and harness the power of Feathering itself to survive. Interestingly, the game arrived on the service shortly after its development team was disbanded and the IP was acquired by Digital Bros. This title, currently, is available exclusively for PS5 owners.

PlayStation

Nine Sols (PS4, PS5)

Rounding out the stellar lineup is a beautifully hand-drawn 2D action-platformer that critics have praised as a lore-rich Metroidvania. Often dubbed a "Soulsvania," the game takes heavy inspiration from Sekiro with an intensely satisfying, deflection-based combat system. You play as a vengeful hero exploring a forsaken realm once ruled by an ancient alien race, tasked with hunting down the nine powerful deities known as the Sols.

Be warned: this game boasts some of the absolute hardest boss fights in the wider Metroidvania genre, so players looking for a serious challenge will have their skills tested.

Don't Forget April's Free Games

While this is a solid line-up for the Essential tier, subscribers know these monthly drops are often just a treat before the main course. Fans will learn more about the larger catalog additions later this month on May 13, when PlayStation reveals the PS Plus Extra and Premium games.

In the meantime, remember that as Sony gives, it also takes away. You have until Monday, May 4, to add April’s freebies, Lords of the Fallen, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, and Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream to your permanent digital library before they rotate out. Once claimed, they are yours to keep as long as your subscription remains active, so be sure to secure them before Tuesday rolls around.
