- The latest update arrives as GEPL continues to shape Real Cricket’s esports scene.
KRAFTON India has launched the Real Cricket 5.3 update on Android and iOS, adding One-Over Duel, an asynchronous 1v1 mode that lets players compete without being online at the same time. The update also refreshes the game’s competitive systems and brings its squads in line with the current international cricket calendar.
KRAFTON India Director of Publishing, Anuj Sahani, explained that the format was designed to remove the need for both players to be online simultaneously. “We built One-Over Duel to be asynchronous precisely so that barrier disappears,” he said, adding that the format is intended to make head-to-head competition easier to fit into players’ schedules.
What’s New in Real Cricket 5.3?
One-Over Duel gives each player six balls to score runs, with the higher total winning the match. A player’s innings can end early if they lose two wickets. Players can issue challenges at any time, while opponents receive a notification and complete their innings later.
Winning duels grants XP and milestone rewards, creating a shorter alternative to conventional multiplayer matches.
The update also includes:
- Multiplayer Season 9: A new leaderboard cycle for competitive progression.
- Tournament Squads: Updated rosters covering international squads, the USA Cricket League, the West Indies Premier League, and the Lanka Super League.
- Multiplayer Card UI: Redesigned player cards with an updated interface.
GEPL Season 3 Adds Competitive Context
The update follows GEPL Season 3, Real Cricket’s franchise-based esports competition, which concluded with Chennai Falcons beating Mumbai Grizzlies 2-1 to retain the title. The season featured eight city-based franchises and an INR 3.1 Cr prize pool, with matches also distributed through Willow TV in the US and Canada and Star Sports Select, Star Sports Khel, and JioHotstar in India.
In an interview with Outlook Respawn during the season 3 final, JetSynthesys founder and CEO, Rajan Navani, said the company views GEPL as a sport and is working to build a competitive structure around Real Cricket. The company is also looking to expand competitions into colleges and professional organizations, creating more opportunities for players beyond the main GEPL season.
The update’s bigger shift is that Real Cricket is making competitive play easier to fit into shorter gaming sessions while continuing to build around the esports ecosystem established by GEPL.
