Highlights

  • Resident Evil Veronica, has officially surpassed 2M wishlists across PC, PS5, Xbox, and the Switch 2 ahead of its 2027 launch.
  • Developed on the proprietary RE Engine, the game provides a modern third-person reimagining of Claire Redfield's fight.
  • Fulfilling long-standing fan demand, this revival of the critically acclaimed 2000 classic highlights the continued massive commercial success of the Resident Evil franchise.

There is clearly no shortage of players ready to revisit Rockfort Island. Capcom has officially announced that its highly anticipated survival-horror remake, Resident Evil Veronica, has already surpassed 2 million wishlists across Windows PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch 2. Many fans simply can't wait to re-experience Claire Redfield's desperate fight for survival when the title finally launches in 2027.

The publisher celebrated this massive milestone on August 4 through the official Resident Evil X (formerly Twitter) account, less than two months after first unveiling the game at Summer Game Fest in June 2026. Thanking the community, Capcom shared a photo of the elderly French woman seen in the recent reveal trailer with a lighthearted message: "2 million biscuits for the 2 million of you who've wishlisted Resident Evil Veronica. Thank you!"

The game had previously crossed its 1M wishlists on Steam and the PlayStation Store in just five to six days of its reveal. According to SteamDB, the game is already sitting comfortably among Steam's most-wishlisted upcoming releases, rubbing shoulders with high-profile titles like Fable and Total War: Warhammer 40,000.

Reaching 2M wishlists without even showing extended gameplay highlights the intense community anticipation surrounding the project. Fans are incredibly eager, despite Capcom not yet revealing a final release date, price, or pre-order details. Much of this consumer confidence stems from the studio's choice of development team. Capcom has tasked the core creators and directors behind the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes with bringing this classic back to life. Utilizing the company's proprietary RE Engine, Capcom has confirmed the remake will be a third-person title directly in line with its recent modernizations.

A Modern Reimagining of Claire Redfield’s Journey

For those new to the classic story, Resident Evil Veronica is a complete reimagining of the 2000 title Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Set just three months after the tragic destruction of Raccoon City in Resident Evil 2, the narrative follows series favorite Claire Redfield as she searches for her missing brother, Chris.

Her investigation leads to her capture and imprisonment at a remote Umbrella Corporation facility on Rockfort Island, where a catastrophic viral outbreak forces her to battle infected enemies and deadly bio-weapons. Capcom has stated that the upcoming remake will preserve this core narrative and original appeal while completely modernizing its graphics, mechanics, and pacing for today's hardware.

A remake of Code: Veronica has long been one of the franchise's most fiercely requested projects. When Capcom conducted a player survey back in 2023, the 2000 spin-off ranked among the games fans most wanted to see remade. Although the original release didn't match the massive sales of its mainline counterparts, partly due to launching on the commercially struggling Sega Dreamcast, it was a massive critical success.

The game earned a staggering 94 on Metacritic, securing mostly 9/10 and 4/5 scores across the gaming press at the time. Capcom later released an expanded version, Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, in 2001, followed by an HD remaster in 2011.

More than two decades later, that enduring popularity and long-standing demand have culminated in Resident Evil Veronica. The incredible early wishlist numbers also reflect the overall commercial powerhouse that the survival-horror brand has become. Driven by continuous strong demand for both new mainline entries and high-quality remakes, Capcom recently reported that the Resident Evil franchise as a whole had sold more than 201 million copies worldwide as of March 31, 2026.
