Roblox Corp has reaffirmed its commitment to child safety as it expands its AI ambitions. The renewed focus comes even as the company faces lawsuits and growing regulatory scrutiny over how it protects younger users.
In its second quarter (Q2) 2026 shareholder letter released on July 30, 2026, the company reported that it "continues to push forward on setting the global standard for healthy, safe, and age-appropriate digital engagement." The statement comes as Roblox defends its safety practices against concerns raised by governments and parents.
Earlier in 2026, Australian Communications Minister, Anika Wells, questioned Roblox over reports of children encountering explicit and harmful content. Los Angeles County also sued the company, alleging the platform had become an unsafe environment for children. Roblox has denied the allegations and said it will defend the case.
However, Canadian officials have also warned that extremists and predators are using online platforms, including Roblox, to target children.
Roblox Expands Age Checks and Communication Tools
Roblox noted that 57% of its global daily active users (DAUs) have completed age checks. The figure has crossed 70% in the U.S. and Australia. Among users under 18, age check penetration has reached 60% globally and 75% in the U.S., as Roblox works toward its long-term goal of 90%.
The platform also rolled out Kids and Select accounts in 2026. The features introduce parental controls, age-based communication settings, and content access. Roblox stated that younger users can now access about 30K experiences, nearly 50% more than at launch.
The company acknowledged that age checks initially reduced on-platform communication. It explained that engagement is improving through Global Chat and Quick Words. More features, including In-Experience Friends Chat, integrated voice calls, Voice Typing, and video chat, are also planned.
Roblox reported Q2 revenue of $1.47 billion USD, up 36% year-over-year (YoY), while daily active users reached 123M. The company said age checks and discovery changes slowed new user growth, although retention remained stable.
Jars AI Founders Strengthen Roblox's AI Push
Roblox has further expanded its Foundation AI team by hiring Jars AI co-founders Steffen Holm and Chris Kruger after they helped launch the Build tool in New Zealand.
"Chris Kruger and I are stoked to be joining the Foundation AI team at Roblox," Holm wrote on LinkedIn. Roblox Senior Director of Engineering, Nishchaie Khanna, acknowledged that the pair had been "instrumental in helping us ship Build in New Zealand."
Build shares the same backend, AI models, and chat history as Roblox Studio. It lets creators move projects between mobile and PC while using AI to generate gameplay systems, characters, environments, and other game elements.
The hires reflect Roblox's broader strategy of pairing AI innovation with stronger safety measures as it expands the platform.
