Highlights

  • CD Projekt has confirmed "Songs of the Past," a third expansion for "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," co-developed with Fool's Theory.
  • The DLC is due in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with more details promised for late summer 2026.
  • The studio brought the reveal forward by a day after the listing appeared early on its own RED Launcher, ahead of a planned May 28 anniversary stream.

CD Projekt has confirmed a third expansion for "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," ending nearly a year of speculation about new content for one of the best-selling role-playing games of the last decade.

The expansion, titled "Songs of the Past," is due in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. In a note to press, CD Projekt said it is co-developing the DLC with Fool's Theory, a studio it described as a team of industry veterans who worked on "The Witcher 3." The company said more details will follow in late summer 2026.

"Songs of the Past" returns players to the role of Geralt of Rivia for a new adventure. It arrives 12 years after "The Witcher 3" launched in 2015, a game that has sold more than 60 million copies, and 11 years after the second expansion, "Blood and Wine," released in 2016. The first expansion, "Hearts of Stone," came out in October 2015.

What the Witcher 3 'Songs of the Past' leak revealed

The announcement landed a day earlier than the studio intended. CD Projekt had scheduled a special anniversary stream for "Blood and Wine" on May 28, which had already prompted speculation that the DLC reveal was near. The early listing forced its hand.

"We originally planned to make this big reveal during our REDstreams tomorrow, but let's say we found something we didn't yet expect on RED Launcher," CD Projekt said in a social media post.

The studio also said it will update the system requirements for "The Witcher 3" to support the new content, citing the need for smooth performance and compatibility. The revised requirements take effect from the next update.

How long the Witcher 3 third DLC was rumored

The confirmation is not a surprise. Reports of a secret Witcher 3 expansion had circulated for months. The first accounts emerged in 2025 pointing to Fool's Theory, the studio also handling the remake of the first "Witcher" game. As Outlook Respawn reported in January, early rumors had even suggested a surprise 2026 release. Financial analysts pushed the story further, and as Outlook Respawn covered in February, Noble Securities forecast that a paid Witcher 3 expansion could sell roughly 11 million copies.

A busy stretch for CD Projekt

"Songs of the Past" arrives during a packed period for the studio. "The Witcher 4" remains in full-scale production, and CD Projekt has told fans not to expect a launch before 2027 at the earliest. The company has laid out a six-year roadmap that also covers "The Witcher 5" and "The Witcher 6."

The picture is different for Cyberpunk. CD Projekt has ruled out further DLC for "Cyberpunk 2077," and co-CEO MichaƂ Nowakowski has indicated that the sequel, "Cyberpunk 2," will not arrive until at least 2030. The studio's catalog strength continues to support its results regardless. CD Projekt reported 2025 revenue up 9% with no new game launches, and "The Witcher 3" remains a major contributor even as Cyberpunk 2077 has overtaken it on raw unit sales.

For now, "Songs of the Past" gives players a reason to return to a decade-old game, with the next batch of details due in late summer.
