Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma, has watched a live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI, providing a new look at the game's development more than eight years after Bethesda announced it at E3 2018. Her Aug 12, 2026, X post also added the game's subtitle with eight asterisks, giving fans a new detail to investigate.
Sharma wrote that the game's “scale and grandeur are incredible” and that the plot is even more impressive. The post does not reveal gameplay features, a release date, or a planned showcase, but it confirms that Xbox's CEO has now seen the RPG in a live state.
Elder Scrolls VI Subtitle Sparks New Theories
The eight asterisks have sparked speculation about the game's potential eight-letter subtitle. Possible names include Dominion, tied to the Aldmeri Dominion, Sentinel, named after a Hammerfell city and linked to the rumored “Guardian” codename, and High Rock, one of the leading setting theories.
Other candidates include Redguard, despite already being used by an Elder Scrolls spinoff, Evermore, a High Rock city near Hammerfell, and Balfiera, a location in Iliac Bay. PC Gamer's Jody Macgregor identified High Rock and Hammerfell as leading possibilities in 2018. None of these titles has been confirmed.
Elder Scrolls VI Progress Follows Xbox Update
The latest development follows Xbox CCO, Matt Booty's June 2026 visit to Bethesda, where he stated that The Elder Scrolls VI “looks amazing” and was “coming along well.”
The timing also puts the project alongside labor concerns at Bethesda. On Bluesky, OneBGS, the Bethesda Game Studios union, noted that it placed hundreds of flags outside its headquarters on Aug 11. Each flag represented a Microsoft game worker who had been laid off in 2026.
For now, Bethesda has not announced a release date or public gameplay reveal. Sharma's post therefore provides progress confirmation while turning the game's undisclosed subtitle into the latest mystery surrounding The Elder Scrolls VI.
