BTS’ fifth studio album, Arirang, has earned the top spot on Billboard Japan’s midyear Hot Albums chart, showcasing an aggressive market capture in just months after its March 20 release. Arirang Tops Japan Charts, Earns Triple Platinum
The rapid ascent of Arirang has outperformed many Japan's domestic mainstays like King & Prince and Mrs. GREEN APPLE. BTS’ market dominance is further highlighted on the midyear Artist 100 chart, where they ranked No. 6. According to The Chosun Daily, the group was the sole international act inside its top ten which was locked down by notable Japanese acts like the back number, Yonezu Kenshi, and Snow Man.
The album’s tracks also retained their steady presence individually. On the midyear Hot 100 singles chart, the album’s lead track, Swim, was at No. 38, while the B-side 2.0 entered at No. 87. This consumption pattern translated to instant commercial scale. The Korea Herald reported that Arirang had logged over 750,000 shipments in Japan within its first 11 days, which got them a triple platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan.
