What began as a subtle winter song has steadily transformed into one of V's biggest long-term solo successes.

Highlights

  • BTS V's Winter Ahead has surpassed a key Spotify milestone, proving its remarkable endurance despite being released during his military service.
  • The seasonal hit has quietly rewritten K-pop holiday streaming history, earning acknowledgement alongside some of the world's most enduring Christmas classics.
  • As BTS resumes global activities with the Arirang World Tour, Winter Ahead constantly strengthens V's growing influence as a solo artist well beyond the group.

BTS member V (Kim Taehyung) has achieved another major streaming milestone with his solo single Winter Ahead. The song surpassed 700 million streams on Spotify, solidifying the global market power of V’s solo music.  Released in November 2024 during his mandatory military service, the song is a collaboration with acclaimed vocalist Park Hyoshin. Since its release, Winter Ahead has positioned itself as a timeless holiday hit from the K-pop sector and has commanded good long-term engagement alongside other popular Western seasonal classics.

How Winter Ahead Became BTS V's Second 700M Spotify Song

Before Winter Ahead, V's previous solo Love Me Again (2023) has also seen massive success since its release. With the recent milestone, V now has two songs with over 700 million plays on a single platform.  Despite BTS V’s military service restrictions, the track’s success showcased immense geographic reach. It topped the iTunes chart in 86 regions, debuted at No. 99 on the Billboard Hot 100, and entered the UK Official Singles Chart at No. 86, while securing the top spot on the UK single downloads ranking.

Holiday Streaming Longevity Sets New Benchmark for the K-pop Song

The single’s endurance has set new K-pop Spotify records within the holiday genre. BTS V is the first K-pop artist to land three separate tracks, namely, Winter Ahead, Christmas Tree, and White Christmas, on the Billboard Holiday Top 100 chart. All three songs also reached number one on the Holiday Digital Song Sales chart.

Reportedly, this market performance led YouTube Music to include the track in its global holiday classics list alongside Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You and Justin Bieber's Mistletoe, last year. Additionally, Billboard selected Winter Ahead for its 2025 end-of-year list, titled “The 27 Best Winter Songs for the Season.” The song also ranked earlier number one on Billboard's “Fans' Favorite Songs of 2024” roster.

Spotify Record and Fan Tribute for V Comes Amidst BTS' Arirang World Tour

The cultural impact of V’s song extended offline as well. Fans recently commemorated the track's music video, at its filming location near the Palace of Versailles, by installing an engraved bench in the Trianon Garden.

Meanwhile, V’s solo boost arrives amidst accelerating group activity with the BTS Arirang World Tour. The tour has already begun its European leg in Madrid, Spain, on June 26, 2026, marking their first-ever stadium concerts in the country. The tour will also have multiple stadium dates in Brussels, London, Munich, and Paris over the coming weeks.
