- The Haikyu!! spinoff, launching in 2026, will focus on humor and comedy.
- The manga series will explore minor characters beyond its original volleyball focus.
- Films, specials, and past spin-offs keep Haikyu!! culturally and commercially relevant.
Haikyuu!! fans are in for a treat as the franchise is set to get a new spinoff manga, as announced by Shueisha. The series titled as Sudate Hinagarasu ("Hinagarasu Leaves the Nest"), will begin serializing in Saikyō Jump’s February 2026 issue, which is set to go on sale on Jan 5, 2026.
The Haikyuu!! manga spinoff series diverges from the main volleyball narrative to focus on Hinagarasu, a mascot character modeled after the protagonist, Shōyō Hinata. Instead of match play and court rivalries, it focuses on parody, portraying Hinata's explosive energy through a humorous, mascot-driven lens.
Haikyu!! Shifts Into Mascot-Driven Comedy Manga
The new Haikyu!! manga features artwork by Retsu, who has previously worked on projects related to the franchise's anime adaptations. The series' lighter, mascot-led story is a departure from its primary serialized run in Weekly Shōnen Jump, which ended in 2020 after years of publishing, finally concluding at the end of 45 volumes.
Haikyu!!, a brainchild of Haruichi Furudate, whose anime adaptation debuted in 2014, has remained a popular global property long beyond the story's conclusion. Production I.G. 's anime adaptations, additional feature films, and an expanding slate of items have maintained the brand as commercially and culturally relevant, paving the way for extensions such as Sudate Hinagarasu.
Anime Films and Specials Keep Haikyu!! Momentum Alive
The time is consistent with overall activities across the Haikyu!! franchise. Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant, the second part of the Haikyu!! Final sequel film is set to hit theaters in 2027. A companion anime special is also in the works, promising new, match-focused animation.
Reportedly in Feb 2024, the first part of the final sequel film, Gekijōban Haikyu!! Gomi Suteba no Kessen ("HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle") sold 1.53 million tickets for ¥2.23 billion (about $14.12M USD), within its first three days of its Japanese screening. On May 31, 2024, the film premiered in North American theaters in Japanese with English subtitles and an English dub.
In 2019, Kyōhei Miyajima debuted another Haikyu!! manga spinoff titled as Haikyūbu!!, on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ website. The manga is a "high-tension club activities comedy" series centered on rival schools. As per industry news, a new anime short Haikyū!! Bakemono-tachi no Iku Tokoro ("Where Monsters Go") will also air on television.
As Haikyu!! expands beyond its volleyball-focused roots, the series is increasingly dabbling with different narrative styles. The new spinoff suggests a bigger strategy, testing if even minor characters can have significant narrative weight in a mature legacy series.
