Garena and Kadokawa have released the first full promotional trailer for Free Fire Daybreak, the upcoming anime based on the renowned gaming IP. The trailer, introducing the series’ central narrative, was unveiled on July 31 alongside the anime’s Spring 2027 premiere confirmation and a new key visual.
The latest Daybreak trailer features protagonist Kelly alongside established Free Fire characters Hayato and Moco in the near-future city of New Dawn. The protagonist, 16-year-old Kelly, awakens an ability called Limit Break as she tries to dig into a conspiracy tied to Horizon Corporation’s ‘Project Bloom.’
The key visual also highlights the trio, Kelly, Hayato, and Moco, while teasing Kelly’s Limit Break ability. Kadokawa and Garena are jointly funding the anime.
First announced in May 2024, Free Fire Daybreak has remained more than two years without a release window. Following its teaser release in 2025, the July 31 announcements mark the project’s most substantial reveals to date.
Free Fire Daybreak Builds a New Narrative
The premise of Free Fire Daybreak starts with Kelly having no memory of her past. As she uncovers fragments of it, she joins allies to expose the conspiracy behind Horizon Corporation and confront the impending threat to the city, according to the official synopsis.
The anime setting departs from Free Fire’s actual gameplay, a last-player-standing survival shooter where dozens of players scavenge weapons on a shrinking island. Rather than recreating it with a battle royale format, the anime expands the game’s lore with an original science-fiction narrative.
Another Game-to-Anime Adaptation Joins Growing Transmedia Projects
The Free Fire Daybreak project arrives as publishers and studios keep trying to expand games into anime. Recent years have seen adaptations spanning major console and PC titles, including Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Arcane, and Devil May Cry.
Studio Candy Box is animating the series under director Ken Takahashi, whose credits include Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya. Hotaru Asafuji is handling the series composition, with Sus4 Inc. overseeing the music for Daybreak.
Free Fire, launched in December 2017, became the most downloaded battle-royale mobile game for seven consecutive years, with a cumulative download surpassing 1B, as of 2026. That commercial strength is the logic behind Daybreak, which will be tested against a packed 2027 slate that includes another high-profile game adaptation.
Crunchyroll and Sony’s Ghost of Tsushima anime adaptation is also scheduled for 2027, being the closest contender to Free Fire Daybreak. With Free Fire maintaining its status as one of the world's most downloaded mobile games, Kadokawa, which suffered a profit decline in 2025, is betting on the franchise’s next expansion with this already established fanbase.
