Netflix confirmed on April 7 that its live action One Piece season 3, subtitled The Battle of Alabasta, will return in 2027. Production is currently underway in Cape Town, South Africa, with co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers Joe Tracz and Ian Stokes.
One Piece live-action season 3 will adapt the Alabasta Arc from Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga, continuing the narrative from the second season’s finale. Tracz and Stokes defined the coming season’s narrative as a “thematically rich, emotionally gripping, and visually spectacular” story from manga that has captured fans for their lives.
The announcement follows season 2's strong debut. One Piece: Into the Grand Line claimed the top spot on Netflix's global top 10 English-language shows chart for the week, pulling 16.8M views and 136.2M hours watched in the debut week.
What’s New in One Piece Live Action Season 3
As mentioned, Netflix’s live action One Piece season 3 will introduce a new narrative combining “the Seven Warlords of the Sea, the ruthless Sir Crocodile, and his underground syndicate Baroque Works.” It will also introduce prominent characters like Bon Clay and Portgas D. Ace, biological son of Pirate King Gol D. Roger.
The streamer has also revealed a new logline and new animated logo with the confirmation. “In a season defined by unbreakable bonds and impossible choices, the Straw Hats must face a brewing civil war and a powerful warlord to save Vivi’s kingdom before it crumbles into the sand,” part of the logline reads.
The production team is positioning the third season of live action One Piece as an epic journey that would bring new enemies and new worldbuilding to the audience. “Reaching this story has been a dream for our team since the live action series began,” emphasized Stokes and Tracz about the next season.
Cast for One Piece Live Action Season 3
All of the previous cast members of live-action One Piece will return for the third season. Iñaki Godoy will be reprising the role of protagonist Luffy, with Emily Rudd as Nami, and Mackenyu as Zoro. Other actors like Charithra Chandran, Jacob Romero, and Taz Skylar will also return to their roles as Vivi, Usopp, and Sanji, respectively.
New cast members boarding season 3 were introduced before. They are Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueña as Portgas D. Ace, Tony Award-winner Cole Escola as Bon Clay, and Daisy Head as Baroque Works agent Miss Doublefinger, alongside Awdo Awdo as Mr. 1.
How to Stream Live Action One Piece Season 3
The live-action One Piece series is a Netflix original; therefore, the company will stream the series globally. For both previous seasons, the streamer has multiple dub and sub options, which will likely continue for the third season of One Piece live action.
Netflix has not disclosed an exact premiere date or release schedule, as of writing. If 2027’s third season follows season 1 and 2’s strategy, new episodes may drop weekly.
Netflix's One Piece IP Strategy
Netflix greenlit the third season in August 2025, with production beginning in November 2025, ahead of the second season's March 2026 premiere. The alignment reflects that the streamer has been consistent with the One Piece IP development model. Netflix is building a multi-format One Piece slate, covering the WIT Studio remake, airing the original anime, and has announced a LEGO animated special as well.
One Piece has been one of the most commercially viable entertainment IPs for decades with cult popularity and expansion across series, movies, and games. With Netflix’s condensed production strategy for the One Piece IP, the streamer is aiming to transform the fanbase into an active audience, with consistent One Piece-related offerings.
