Highlights

  • South Korea is expanding its Hallyu export strategy to Europe via K-Content Expo.
  • The expo is backed by KOCCA and had earlier built a matchmaking system online to streamline the business deals.
  • Beyond boardroom negotiations, high-profile K-beauty and dance events will be there to boost the Korean Wave's public appeal.

South Korea’s state-backed push into the European entertainment market is being anchored by its latest 2026 Czech K-Content Expo, to capture rising regional demand. The launch of this event was announced on June 23, 2026, by the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, alongside the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA). The event will run from July 1 to 3 at the Prague Congress Centre for three days. It will reportedly connect South Korean media like gaming, animation, broadcasting, and technology companies with broader European markets.

How KOCCA is Structuring B2B Export Deals for Europe

As per Seoul Economic Daily, 29 South Korean content firms, like entertainment conglomerate CJ ENM and animation studio Aurora World, will serve as the delegation's key representatives. They will meet with about 80 corporate buyers from Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic. Earlier this month, KOCCA initiated an online matchmaking program for global buyers to find suitable Korean business partners and review their export portfolios. The process was designed for 580 anticipated on-site business consultations to make it more efficient and streamlined.

Such expos follow a proven, effective model for South Korea’s cultural exports. KOCCA has previously conducted export expos across Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, and Poland. Notably, these generated $127.52 million USD in total export consultations last year. Organizers reportedly selected Prague due to its high geographic accessibility to neighboring Western and Eastern European states, making it an ideal logistics hub for growing Hallyu, or the Korean Wave, beyond its usual strongholds.

Public K-Beauty and Dance Events will Support 2026 Czech K-Content Expo

To sustain consumer momentum and corporate negotiations, the expo will also feature public-facing programs. Apart from trade deals, K-beauty showcases and collaborative dance performances will run in parallel. Notably, the event will also include some performances by high-profile Korean choreographers like Aiki, Hyojin Choi, and Lihey, who will perform alongside local European dance crews.

The Prague K-Content Expo marks the initiation of a broader, state-supported diversification strategy. Post the conclusion of the Czech event, KOCCA may launch sequential expos in other high-growth emerging markets, including Vietnam and Chile, accommodating its export framework to local market data.
