Developer MAGES. has announced that the STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT will be released in Japan on Aug 20, 2026. The announcement coincided with an opening movie release on YouTube, featuring Kanako Ito’s original theme Skyclad Observer.
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is the second remake of 5pb and Nitroplus’ 2009 SciADV flagship, Steins;Gate. It follows the script of the first remake STEINS;GATE ELITE, enhancing it with updated visuals.
The STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT will launch across PlayStation (4 & 5), Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC platforms in Japan with text support in Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and English.
RE:BOOT was originally announced in October 2024 with a 2025 target launch before being pushed to 2026. Spike Chunsoft previously confirmed in November 2025 that the title will launch in North America and Europe in 2026, though a Western release date remains unannounced.
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT Offers a Rebuilt Experience
The SciADV series sold 4M copies cumulatively, making RE:BOOT a significant commercial move for MAGES. that can revitalize the franchise. The 2011 anime series by White Fox became one of the most influential sci-fi anime and also influenced the ELITE remake.
As per Simulation Daily, STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT has rebuilt the entire visual novel gaming experience, with tighter pacing, a new ending, and new visuals. Background graphics, event images, and characters have also been newly designed, while keeping the originality intact.
Characters were animated with the next-generation engine “E-Mote,” with original character designer huke returning for updated illustration and background supervision. According to MAGES., background image numbers were increased by 1.2 times, while event images have doubled compared to the original.
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT is launching with three editions: Standard, Limited, and Ultra Limited. The Limited edition, priced at ¥12,980 ($82.82) and ¥14,080 ($89.84) on Switch 2, adds a visual art book, huke-illustrated packaging box, soundtrack, and footage from the STEINS;GATE 15th anniversary live event. The multi-platform, multi-language rollout signals a push beyond Japan's core market, a common pattern for visual novel publishers seeking to capitalize on growing Western demand for the genre.
