Universal Pictures debuted The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on premium digital platforms on May 19, arriving 48 days after the film’s April 1 theatrical opening. The animated sequel is currently available on premium video-on-demand (PVOD) services, including Prime Video, Apple TV, YouTube Movies, Dish, and Fandango at Home.

At Fandango, subscribers can watch their first film for free in Advertising-Based Video on Demand (AVOD) format. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie UHD version is priced at $29.99 across most U.S. platforms, while rentals are listed between $24.99 and $29.99 depending on the storefront.

Amazon is also offering a bundled digital package with 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie for $39.99. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s digital release window follows Universal’s strategy for the 2023 original, which moved to digital 45 days after its release.

Following its digital debut, the film will roll out in physical format on June 16, with 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions. A Limited Edition SteelBook is also available, bundling the 4K UHD disc, a standard Blu-ray, and a digital copy. Walmart is upping the SteelBook edition offerings with a Yoshi egg collectible, furthering the collectible economy.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Digital and Physical Release Bonus Content

Universal is including bonus material along with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s digital and physical releases, available through participating retailers. According to home entertainment announcements, bonuses include behind-the-scenes clips, cast commentary, and a breakdown of Easter eggs hidden throughout the movie.

The making-of featurette titled Next Level: Making The Super Mario Galaxy Movie features discussions from the cast, Nintendo, and Illumination's filmmakers. “Cast of Characters” bonus content offers a deeper look at the character pairings, Mario and Luigi, Peach and Rosalina, Bowser and Bowser Jr., and Toad and Yoshi.

Additional features include Exploring the Galaxy, which takes audiences through the film's iconic settings, and a Cosmic Tunes explainer, in which composer Brian Tyler discusses reimagining Nintendo's game music as a cinematic score. However, the most anticipated among all bonus features is likely to be Secrets of the Galaxy, a filmmaker-guided walkthrough of hidden Easter eggs throughout The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

What We Know About The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Streaming

Universal’s animated features stream on Peacock first, before transitioning to Netflix's 10-month window. However, Universal has not officially announced a streaming date for the film. Based on Universal and Illumination's established distribution patterns, the movie will stream on Peacock.

After its Peacock window, the film is likely to move to Netflix around late 2026. Franchise predecessor, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, is currently available on Peacock with a subscription.
