ESL has outlined a structural overhaul of its Counter-Strike 2 esports circuits for 2027 season, anchored by a minimum $11.45 million USD investment across the ESL Pro Tour. The funding will be split across prize money, club rewards tied to performance, and annual incentives for the top 16 teams, with an additional $1M through a second ESL Grand Slam.
Alongside the financial commitment, ESL confirmed adjustments to the ESL Pro League calendar. The 2027 season will be shortened by roughly two weeks, with ESL Pro League Season 25 and Season 26 scheduled for March 4-14 and Sep 23 - Oct 3, respectively.

The ESL 2027 season further emphasizes standardized 8-team playoff brackets and mandatory arena finals for all tier-one events. The condensed format reflects efforts to reduce scheduling conflicts that have affected overlapping events in recent years.
IEM Kraków 2027 Format Overhaul and Wildcards Debut
The first event on ESL's 2027 slate, Intel Extreme Masters Kraków (IEM Kraków), is scheduled for Jan 27- Feb 7, 2027, in Kraków, Poland, carrying a total prize pool of $1.25M. The winnings will be distributed across all 24 participating teams, with the champion earning $420K in prize money plus $80K in club reward.
Kraków will also inaugurate ESL’s new competitive framework with the eight-team playoffs and Wildcard Invites. Stage 1 will field 16 teams, with 12 drawn from the Global Valve Regional Standings (VRS) rankings (positions 9-20), alongside four Wildcard invites. The Stage 1 wildcard slots will be reserved for teams outside the top VRS rankings (below rank 12), particularly newly formed rosters or teams undergoing major changes.
Stage 2 reserves its eight slots exclusively for the top eight VRS-ranked sides. Due to the 8-team playoff structure, IEM Kraków 2027 will eliminate prior upper- and lower-bracket decider matches in group 2. The complete overhaul will effectively shorten the tournament length, with the aim of balancing competitive stability and flexibility.
ESL’s 2027 esports roadmap extends beyond calendar and prize pool formatting. The organizer has confirmed its plan to expand its global footprint by hosting the ESL Pro Tour in at least three new cities across different continents by the end of 2027. However, possible host cities for the new events remain unannounced.
