EA FC Empires Shuts Down, Joins Wave of Cancellations in 2025

03 SEP 2025, 08:20 AM

Highlights

  • EA Sports FC Empires will be fully shut down on November 30, 2025, with gameplay ending for current users who have early access.

  • EA removed the game from all storefronts, disabled microtransactions, and has not provided a specific reason for its cancellation.

  • The shutdown continues EA's recent trend of cancelling projects and restructuring to drive growth across its sports franchises and core IPs.

Electronic Arts is sunsetting its mobile soccer management game EA Sports FC Empires on November 30, 2025, removing it from all storefronts and disabling in-app purchases. The exact reason for the shutdown remains undisclosed, but it follows EA's broader move to refocus on its core growth opportunities.

EA’s Ongoing Wave Of Cancellations

EA FC Empires was previously in early access in select regions, has already been delisted from major app stores and all in-app purchases are now disabled. While players who have the app installed can continue to play until the sunset date, the company has not revealed the specific reason for this action.

This follows a pattern throughout 2025, where EA has shut down several mobile and console titles, signaling a major shift in its business priorities. EA Entertainment president Laura Miele indicated these moves are part of a strategy to focus on areas of significant growth, aligning resources behind franchises with the highest potential. The cancellation adds to a growing list of discontinued EA games in 2025, including titles from The Simpsons: Tapped Out and Titanfall 3.

Despite ongoing project cancellations and restructuring, Electronic Arts reported a mixed financial performance in 2025. For the financial year 2024-2025, EA achieved net revenue of $7.46 billion, slightly down 1.3% year-over-year, and net income at $1.12 billion, reflecting pressure from rising development costs and underperforming new titles like FC Empires and Dragon Age: Veilguard.

Notably, EA continues to maintain strong positions with core sports IPs such as FIFA (now EA FC) and Madden NFL, and its battle royale title Apex Legends. These franchises drive steady annual revenue through microtransactions. The publisher's focus is squarely on its highest-performing properties, with upcoming releases like Battlefield 6 expected to counterbalance discontinued projects.
