Highlights

  • Elden Ring Nightreign is launching The Forsaken Hollows DLC on December 4.
  • The expansion adds two new classes, new bosses, and a "Shifting Earth" mechanic.
  • The DLC will be a paid update, though free for Deluxe/Collector's Edition owners.

FromSoftware has officially announced the first major expansion for its multiplayer spin-off, Elden Ring Nightreign. The new downloadable content, titled The Forsaken Hollows, is scheduled to launch on December 4, 2025. Publisher Bandai Namco confirmed the DLC will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, bringing a fresh wave of new content to the co-op survival action game.

The expansion will introduce two new playable classes, known as Nightfarers. The first is the Scholar, described as an academic warrior with "impressive arcane levels" who gains advantages through battlefield observation. The second is the Undertaker, an abbess with "considerable strength and faith" who is tasked to "slay the Nightlord" and dispatch enemies with "ruthless efficiency".

These new characters will face formidable new threats, including new bosses like the dreaded Dreglord in the Limveld area. A major new feature arriving in The Forsaken Hollows is the "Shifting Earth" mechanic.

This system will dynamically transform the game's map, creating a massive new subterranean region called "The Great Hollow". This cavity is described as being filled with exotic ruins, sacred towers, and mysterious crystals that emit a "life-draining miasma," forcing players to adapt their exploration and combat strategies.

The first trailer, revealed at a recent Sony State of Play, also teased a potential appearance from the Dark Souls fan favourite, Artorias.

Price, Bonuses, and Commercial Success

The Forsaken Hollows will be available as a separate purchase, reportedly for $15.00. However, the new content will be automatically included at no extra cost for players who already own the Deluxe or Collector's Edition of the base game. Additionally, FromSoftware announced that players who pre-purchase the expansion before its December 4 release will receive a digital artbook and mini-soundtrack as a bonus.

This new content is set to enhance Elden Ring Nightreign's fast-paced, roguelike experience, which differs from the mainline game by focusing on short, intense 40-minute co-op runs. Despite a "lukewarm" or "mixed" reception from critics, with one VGC review calling it "a clumsy multiplayer sideshow," the game has been a significant commercial success.

Publisher Bandai Namco reported that the game sold 2 million copies on its first day and had crossed 5 million units sold by the end of July. According to SteamDB, the game hit a peak of over 313,000 concurrent users on Steam, making it FromSoftware’s second-highest peak on the platform, behind only Elden Ring itself.
