Forza Horizon 6 Revealed with Japan Setting at TGS 2025
Forza Horizon 6 to Take Players Across Tokyo, Mount Fuji, and Japanese Automotive Culture in Its 2026 Release
Microsoft confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 will launch in 2026, setting the next entry in the series in Japan. The announcement came during Tokyo Game Show 2025, where a teaser trailer highlighted Mount Fuji, Tokyo city, and elements of Japanese car culture.
The teaser included license plates and memorabilia from previous Forza Horizon games before revealing Japan’s landscapes framed by cherry blossoms around Mount Fuji. Microsoft confirmed the game will launch first on Xbox Series X and PC, with a PlayStation 5 release following later. Art director Don Arceta noted that additional details would be shared in early 2026.
Racing Through Tokyo and Beyond
The game will feature Tokyo’s elevated highways, rural areas, and Mount Fuji as a central landmark. Players can explore Japanese automotive culture, including drifting, Kei cars, vans, motorsport, and vehicle customization. Seasonal changes, a hallmark of previous Horizon titles, will also return.
This release marks the longest gap between Horizon games. Forza Horizon 5 launched in 2021 in Mexico, and Playground Games has since worked on the upcoming Fable reboot. Japan has been a top request from fans since the series began in 2012, with previous settings including Colorado, Italy, France, Australia, Britain, and Mexico.
Microsoft’s choice of Japan also reflects a broader strategy to expand appeal in the Japanese market. At Tokyo Game Show, the company highlighted other Japan-inspired content in upcoming titles, including new maps for the next Call of Duty release.
Forza Horizon started as a spin-off from Forza Motorsport but has grown into a key franchise for Xbox. Playground Games continues to lead development, while Turn 10 Studios now supports Horizon projects. The series has reached audiences beyond Xbox platforms, with Forza Horizon 5 available on PlayStation 5.
By bringing the series to Japan, Microsoft aims to meet long-standing fan expectations while engaging a new audience.
