Supergiant Games confirmed during Microsoft's Xbox Partner Preview showcase on March 26 that Hades II launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on April 14. The announcement ends a six-month wait for Sony and Microsoft players, after the title launched as a Nintendo console exclusive on September 25, 2025.
Hades II will also be available on Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere at launch, underscoring Microsoft’s cross-platform strategy. The launch will also include all the post-launch patches and “bonus content.” The PS5 and Xbox versions will play at 120 FPS.
Originally launched in early access on PC in May 2024, Hades II quickly climbed engagement charts. After its September 2025 release, it has generated over $80 million USD in gross revenue across roughly 3.5M units sold.
Hades II: Gameplay, Narrative Evolution, and Performance Metrics
Hades II was announced as a direct sequel to its predecessor, Hades, in 2022. The title introduces Melinoë as the protagonist, expanding the narrative scope beyond Zagreus’ escape from the underworld.
The sequel deepens its roguelike mechanics with new combat systems, expanded environments, and a more layered storytelling structure rooted in Greek mythology. Early reception has highlighted its refined mechanics and narrative density, with Metacritic attributing a score of 95.
The game received strong recognition across multiple awards ceremonies, including Best Action Game at The Game Awards 2025 and Best Game on Steam Deck in the Steam Awards 2025. The release structure reflects a deliberate multiplatform strategy to expand its post-launch critical and commercial momentum.
Hades II’s strong early retention positions it as a premium indie hit that sustains engagement without live-service models; something that has also been observed in titles like Dead Cells and Hollow Knight. The PS5 and Xbox release will now determine whether a critically acclaimed indie can sustain momentum into a significant second wave of sales.
