- Early reactions are already raising questions about its direction.
Marvel’s Project Comet is attracting attention after leaked footage offered a closer look at an unannounced free-to-play action RPG reportedly being developed by Scopely. The project combines Marvel characters with open-world exploration and real-time combat. Its four-player missions reportedly give it more in common with games such as Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves than Marvel Rivals.
Project Comet reportedly entered closed testing in June 2026.
The test materials identified iOS and Android, while later reports based on trailer footage have claimed PC cross-play. However, developers have not publicly confirmed PC support, and consoles have not been mentioned.
Marvel’s Project Comet Gameplay and Character Roster Revealed
The reported gameplay centers on direct character control through an on-screen stick and ability buttons. Each hero has several skills and an ultimate, while missions can be replayed at greater difficulties for improved rewards.
Meanwhile, locations shown in the leaked material include neon city areas and fantasy-style strongholds.
The reported roster includes:
- S-rank: Doctor Strange, Captain America, Wolverine, and Doctor Octopus
- A-rank: Spider-Man, Invisible Woman, Elektra, and War Machine
The footage also reportedly features Scarlet Witch, with comparisons to Marvel Rivals emerging because of the character designs. Yet, Project Comet has no reported connection to NetEase’s hero shooter.
Project Comet’s Marvel Premise Fuels Early Debate
The game's reported premise centers on a world where the Fantastic Four were the primary heroes before being defeated by Galactus, leaving other characters to take their place.
Scopely has not formally announced Project Comet, but its current recruitment for a senior director of community describes an unannounced “cross-platform, new F2P open-world adventure” using a major IP. The role also calls for support of a mobile-first audience.
That has not stopped debate around the project.
On X, some users criticized its reported gacha structure. One commenter, @MyTaintedEgo, called it “a gambling game with a Marvel front,” while @play_elevyn questioned why Marvel is pursuing this format instead of an MMO.
Project Comet remains an unannounced project. Its eventual success will depend on whether its Marvel roster, co-op structure, and monetization model can separate it from the crowded mobile RPG market.
The claims appear credible, but the game itself carries an AI-slop-era aesthetic, with some of its visual elements appearing strikingly similar to those seen in existing titles.
