The move supports rising demand for gaming and content creation laptops in the country by producing devices locally.
Make in India and MSI’s Manufacturing Expansion
‘Make in India’ is a government initiative aimed at strengthening local manufacturing and reducing import dependency in sectors including electronics. The program encourages companies to produce goods domestically and develop India as a manufacturing hub with competitive quality and cost advantages.
MSI’s partnership with Syrma SGS Technology has allowed it to establish a state-of-the-art production line in Chennai, initially for the Modern and earlier Katana laptop series. This expansion to include the flagship Katana and Crosshair lines signifies confidence in the capabilities and scale of Indian manufacturing facilities.
By producing advanced laptops locally, MSI intends to deliver global-standard products tailored for Indian consumers while supporting the country’s broader tech ecosystem. The Chennai plant’s operations also facilitate quicker distribution and potentially reduce costs, with MSI positioning India as a key part of its global supply chain.
The Katana models will start at approximately INR 95,990, and the Crosshair models will be available at introductory prices around INR 1,89,990. This production move reflects both growing buyer interest and MSI’s reliance on a local manufacturing base to meet market demands efficiently. Ultimately, MSI’s manufacturing expansion in India aligns with wider industry trends of shifting production closer to key emerging markets.
