Highlights

  • Intergalactic will skip The Game Awards 2025 and is not planned for release in 2026, according to Jeff Grubb and Jason Schreier.
  • This means Naughty Dog will move through most of the PS5 generation without launching a new original IP.
  • The sci-fi title introduces Jordan A. Mun, played by Tati Gabrielle, with themes centered on belief and personal conviction.

Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will not appear at next month’s Game Awards, according to journalist Jeff Grubb, while Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has confirmed that the game is not planned for release in 2026. The PS5 exclusive debuted at The Game Awards in December 2024, but current reporting suggests it will not return to the 2025 show.

Grubb said the studio has no showcase scheduled for this year’s ceremony and noted that the sci-fi title is not targeting a 2026 launch window. Schreier separately supported the release-year shift, indicating the project remains earlier in development than expected.

Naughty Dog’s PS5 Pipeline and Intergalactic’s Long-Term Role

The absence leaves Naughty Dog without a new original game announced for the current PlayStation 5 cycle so far. Since the start of the generation, the studio has focused on The Last of Us remasters for Sony’s current hardware. With PlayStation 6 expected in 2027 or later, Intergalactic could arrive late in the cycle or cross into the next generation.

The game follows Jordan A. Mun, portrayed by actor Tati Gabrielle, a bounty hunter stranded on Sempiria, a planet whose communication with the rest of the universe “went dark hundreds of years ago.” Led by Neil Druckmann, the project shifts from the grief-oriented themes of The Last of Us to explorations of belief and conviction.

Gabrielle previously said the narrative treats faith as more than religion, explaining that “there’s also faith in oneself” and in community. She described the story’s core question as examining the motivations and principles that guide a person’s choices.

Anticipating new IPs, Naughty Dog’s momentum is supported by the Uncharted series selling over 41M units worldwide, while PS4 and PS5 have exceeded 1.4B software units sold as of Sept. 30, 2025. Its release is expected to shape expectations for the studio’s next era and PlayStation’s shift toward future hardware.
