Pokémon UNITE Confirms March 2027 Shutdown
Nearly six years after its Switch debut, Pokémon UNITE will close with refunds and farewell events planned.
Highlights
- Pokémon UNITE confirms its shutdown after nearly six years on Nintendo Switch and mobile.
- The Pokémon Company outlines its plans for the game's final months.
- The upcoming closure raises questions about the long-term sustainability of live-service games.
Pokémon UNITE will end service on March 23, 2027, with the closure affecting Nintendo Switch and mobile players, subscriptions, premium currency purchases, and online battles. The Pokémon Company announced the decision on Oct 27, 2026, confirming that servers will shut down at 9 am Japan Standard Time (JST).
The company thanked players who have supported the game since its Nintendo Switch debut on July 21, 2021, and apologized for the announcement.
Pokémon UNITE Ends Gem Sales and Memberships
The company stopped Gem sales, new UNITE Membership subscriptions, and automatic renewals at 2 pm JST on Oct 27. Existing members can retain their benefits until their current subscriptions expire, while players can spend their remaining Gems before service termination.
After the shutdown, refunds will be available for unused Gems purchased with real money. Free Gems, purchase bonuses, and membership rewards are excluded. The company will announce the application procedures after the service ends, and players can submit requests through an in-game form.
Players should retain the game until their refund is processed. To check their balance, they can select the plus icon in the home screen's upper-right corner and view the amount on the Gem purchase screen.
Final Events and Pokémon UNITE Library
An update arriving Nov 12, 2026, will introduce a special event and a library feature. The event will offer previously released items, including Unite Licenses and Holowear.
The library will preserve access to selected battle records, acquired licenses, Holowear, and other in-game content after the servers close. Players must download the required library data by 9 am JST on March 23, 2027.
Those who miss the deadline will lose access to the feature after service termination.
Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo Tournament to Continue
The Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo competition will proceed as previously announced, with qualifying tournaments beginning Dec 5, 2026.
The company also confirmed that players will no longer be able to log in or battle after the shutdown. Its guidelines governing the use of game videos and still images will no longer apply once service ends.
Pokémon UNITE’s shutdown shows that even established franchises cannot guarantee a live-service game’s longevity, leaving its community to preserve its memories as the servers prepare to close.
