Highlights

  • Real Racing 3 shut down, with EA delisting the game from App Store and Google Play.
  • The Final Lap update adds bonus Gold and free premium cars like the Rimac Nevera and Audi S1 e-tron quattro.
  • After 12 years and 500M downloads, the shutdown reflects rising live-service costs, licensing pressures, and EA’s broader mobile wind-down strategy.

Real Racing 3 will be shut down by California-based video game company Electronic Arts Inc. (EA), after more than a decade of successful run. According to the publisher, the game has already been delisted from App Store and Google Play on Dec 18, 2025, with the game server completely dissolving on Mar 19, 2026. As part of the transition, new in-app purchases have been disabled as well.

The decision, announced through an EA’s blog post, The Final Lap, outlined the last plan for the game with one final update and server closure details.

Servers are scheduled to remain online until Mar 19, 2026, allowing existing users continued access during the final months, while new downloads have been stopped from Dec 18. However, if a user has previously downloaded the game, they can re-download it via account history till March 2026.

Real Racing 3 Shut Down: EA Introduces The Final Lap

Real Racing 3’s final update, rolled out alongside the announcement, adds a closing set of events and grants players bonus in-game currency. As a token of appreciation, the final update will feature two premium cars, a 2023 Rimac Nevera and an Audi S1 e-tron quattro, for all players. If a player already owns one or both models, they will receive additional Gold, along with the grant of 1000 Gold that is part of the update.

The in-game currency can be used till the server remains on; after that, it will become inaccessible. EA said the update is designed to let remaining users enjoy the road ahead while the title remains active, framing the move as a natural conclusion after 12 years of operation.

Real Racing 3, developed by Firemonkeys Studios, was launched in 2013 as one of the best mobile racing games. Boasting over 500M downloads overall, the game features officially licensed cars from F1, NASCAR, WRC, and the like. The title generated $40 thousand USD revenue in the last month.

The closure of Real Racing 3 underscores the changing economics of mobile live services. It launched during an era when long-tail live services were still emerging on smartphones. Over time, rising licensing costs, higher expectations for live updates, and competition from newer racing titles have made sustaining older games increasingly difficult.

Additionally, EA has decided to let go of more of its older titles in 2026, including The Sims Mobile (Jan 24, 2026) and NBA Live 19 (Jan 30, 2026).
