Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) has cemented its place as one of the best-selling games in history, selling over 79M units globally, according to Take-Two Interactive’s latest earnings report from November 2025. This milestone surpasses RDR2’s long-standing competitors like Mario Kart 8, which sold roughly 78.02M copies across Wii U and Nintendo Switch.
Ranking Among the Global All-Time Bestsellers
RDR2 now ranks as the fourth best-selling game ever, trailing only Minecraft (350M units), Grand Theft Auto V (over 220M units), and Wii Sports (approximately 82.9M units, heavily bundled with consoles).
The entire Red Dead Redemption series has collectively sold more than 106M units worldwide, reaffirming its major commercial impact. RDR2 has also been named the top-selling title of the past seven years in the U.S. when measured by dollar sales, outperforming other major releases like Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Warner Bros.’ Hogwarts Legacy, and Bandai Namco’s Elden Ring.
Launched in October 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 boasts longevity rarely seen in the gaming industry, continuing strong sales years after its initial release. It has maintained relevance amidst multiple high-profile new releases in recent years. Reports show yearly sales in the range of six to nine million units, which highlights its lasting demand.
The game’s online component, Red Dead Online, packaged with every RDR2 copy and launched as a standalone version in 2020, has further extended the game’s life and community engagement. Rockstar has also found success with GTA Online, the online component of Grand Theft Auto V, which continues to be popular since its release in 2013.
