  • Roblox “strongly contests” Iraq’s ban, alleges the ban to be based on “an outdated understanding.”
  • Company said that in-game chat features were already disabled in Arab countries.
  • Amid bans and legal issues, Roblox continues to grow with major brand tie-ups like Mattel’s 'Barbie' and 'Monster High.'

After Iraq formally banned Roblox over child safety and cultural concerns, the gaming platform has now firmly responded, saying that they "strongly contest recent claims made by the Iraqi authorities." In a statement, a spokesperson from Roblox informed Reuters that the government's decision to ban them might be based on "an outdated understanding" of the platform.

The company stood its ground on the safety measures taken globally, as well as for the Arab countries. For example, the company disabled its in-game chat feature for the Arab countries that include Iraq too. And so, as reported by Pocket Gamers, Roblox believes that the claims which say the platform is "somehow being misused are therefore inaccurate."

"Safety is a top priority for Roblox and we work diligently to create a positive and civil environment that respects different cultural values and allows people to create, play and learn," the company added further in its statement provided to Pocket Gamers.

Previously, in an online gaming safety crackdown, the popular gaming platform rendered 100 million user-created games unplayable. To improve child-safety, stringent content ratings were also enforced.

Roblox’s Success Amid Legal Issues

While the company is trying its best to bring in services like a Parent and Caregiver Council, Trusted Connections, and an open-source AI system called Sentinel, to enhance their safety, it has been flooded with legal issues regarding the same.

Coinciding with the Iraq incident, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier had also issued a criminal subpoena on October 20, 2025, accusing the platform of being a "breeding ground for predators."

The platform reported 111.8 million average daily active users in the second quarter of 2025. The company has set a long-term goal of capturing 10% of the estimated $180 billion global gaming content market, which Chief Executive David Baszucki said he expects to achieve when the platform reaches 300 million daily active users.
