Roblox Launches Parent Council to Strengthen Online Safety
Roblox’s New Parent Council Aims to Strengthen Trust and Safety Amid Rising Scrutiny
- Roblox launches its first Parent Council to enhance online safety and parental involvement.
- The council will include 40 members (parents/caregivers) from North America and Europe, with plans for global expansion.
- Roblox adds 100 new safeguards, including facial age estimation.
Roblox is set to launch its first Parent and Caregiver Council, aiming to strengthen parental involvement and oversight in the platform’s safety and well-being initiatives. The council intends to bring together at least 40 parents and caregivers from North America and Europe to advise on issues such as digital well-being, safety, and civility. Speaking of its future, the company said that it wishes to globally expand this program in due course of the time.
How Will the Council Function?
Roblox intends to hold quarterly meetings with its ‘selected’ council members to discuss concerns and parents’ perspectives of the company’s internal deliberations on platform features, policies, and resources. These discussions will ultimately generate the feedback with which Roblox can update and upgrade. The structure of this program is almost similar to its existing Teen Council, where adolescent users provide their perspectives to the company.
The applicants for this council need to be proficient in English, familiar with Roblox, and additionally, reside in eligible areas. The application window will be open till October 26, 2025, with the program running from January to December 2026.
Dr. Elizabeth Milovidov, Head of Parental Advocacy at Roblox, informed in a statement that the company’s intention is to “empower parents” through “knowledge and skills required to guide their children to be savvy and safe online.”
Why This Matters?
Amidst the increasing scrutiny over how online platforms must protect young users, Roblox’s announcement lays a positive pathway. The company has also published a “Safety Snapshot,” where 100 safety initiatives were deployed in 2025 that included the removal of unrated content, the expansion of voice moderation to newer languages, and the cleaning up of legacy content that did not align with its policy.
Nevertheless, Roblox has faced several legal cases. In October 2025, Kentucky's Attorney General, Russell Coleman, filed a lawsuit alleging the company was a “playground for predators.” He claimed that the platform simply wasn’t doing enough to protect children online. Another parent, a mother of three, said in a news conference, alongside Coleman, that she came to realize that the platform is “actually is the ‘Wild West’ of the internet, targeted at children.”
Responding to the Kentucky incident, Roblox said in a statement that “We have rigorous safety measures in place from advanced AI models to an expertly trained team of thousands moderating our platform 24/7 for inappropriate content.”
However, in another incident in Wisconsin, a lawsuit has been filed against the company today, claiming that a 5-year-old playing on Roblox was groomed by predators.
While Roblox's safety measures may mark progress, questions about addressing systemic risks with depth remain under observation. The new council may play an important role in curbing the gap between corporate policy and parental trust, turning criticism into a fruitful change.
