Sony Expands PlayStation Store Pricing Test to 190+ Games
The PlayStation Store pricing experiment covers games across 70 regions.
Highlights
- Sony expands PlayStation Store price testing to 190+ games across 70+ regions.
- Personalized discounts range from about 5% to 27.8%, with deeper cuts in the U.S., while Japan remains excluded.
- First-party and third-party titles were included, with testing programs examining both price cuts and increases.
Sony is testing different game prices for users on the PlayStation Store through an A/B test. According to price tracker PSprices, the test now covers more than 190 games across over 70 regions. Some users are receiving personalized discounts that can reach 27.8%.
The experiment began in November 2025 with about 50 games in 30 regions. Over the following months, it expanded to additional markets and titles. PSprices says users are split into control and test groups that see different prices.
PlayStation Store Testing Personalized Game Prices
The pricing differences range from small reductions of around 5% to deeper cuts of 17.6% in Europe. In the United States, which joined the experiment in early March 2026, discounts have reached as high as 27.8%.
Helldivers 2 reportedly dropped from $39.99 to $28.89 for some users in the U.S. Other titles, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Gran Turismo 7, God of War Ragnarök, and Stellar Blade, have also appeared at reduced prices in several regions.
Sony’s own releases are part of the experiment, along with games from publishers including 2K Games, Focus Entertainment, Deep Silver, Bethesda, Rockstar Games, and Ubisoft.
Elastic Pricing Programs and Sales Tests
Elastic pricing adjusts game prices dynamically based on demand and purchasing behavior. Sony is testing the model through several programs, including IPT_PILOT, IPT_OPR_TESTING, and IPT_LTM, with IPT_LTM currently active in the United States. Some listings may appear above the standard retail price during the test.
The tracker also reported that participants in recent PlayStation Store sales sometimes received different discount levels than regular users. In one case, Helldivers 2 appeared with a larger promotional discount in some regions than in others.
The test currently spans the Middle East, Europe, Canada, the United States, Brazil, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Japan remains the only major PlayStation market not included.
If expanded beyond testing, the approach could change how digital game prices are presented to players on Sony’s storefront.
