Highlights

  • Sony Honda’s AFEELA EV (electric vehicle) becomes the first production vehicle to natively support PS4 and PS5 Remote Play via its IVI system.
  • The integration reflects Sony’s push to position AFEELA as a software-defined EV, blending gaming, entertainment, and connected services.
  • Announcing the PS Remote Play integration ahead of AFEELA 1’s 2026 deliveries in California, Sony aims for higher marketing visibility on the PlayStation ecosystem and lifestyle-focused platforms.

Sony Honda Mobility Inc. (SHM) has announced that its upcoming AFEELA electric vehicle (EV) will become the world’s first production car to feature native integration with PlayStation Remote Play. The announcement made on Dec 18, 2025, notes that the new “in-car entertainment feature” will let users stream and control games from PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PlayStation 5 (PS5) consoles directly through AFEELA’s In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) system.

According to SHM, Remote Play will be accessible when the vehicle is parked as well as during the drive, positioning the system as part of a broader in-car digital experience. The system will feature a premium audio system and an integrated display. However, the IVI will require a compatible PlayStation console (PS5 or PS4) and a stable broadband internet connection (at least 5Mbps) for passengers to play remotely.

The integration leverages Sony Interactive Entertainment’s existing Remote Play infrastructure, extending it into automotive environments without introducing a new gaming platform or storefront.

Strategic Vision Behind In-Car PlayStation Integration

The Remote Play integration builds on SHM’s broader strategy to position AFEELA as a software-centric mobility product, not merely another electric vehicle. In the official announcement, SHM Representative Director, President, and COO Izumi Kawanishi emphasized that AFEELA is designed as a software-defined vehicle where digital services evolve alongside user lifestyles, positioning entertainment as a pillar for a better driving experience.

He further stated the PlayStation Remote Play integration as part of the company’s ambition to redefine “the traveling space into a captivating and emotional one,” rather than just a mode of transportation.  Sony’s decision reflects similar ventures already seen in the vehicle industry, notably with initiatives such as Tesla Arcade.

With AFEELA, Sony is not planning to introduce a new system, but rather to leverage an already established product, PlayStation. It automatically attracts netizens and game-tech enthusiasts. However, it is simply not a targeted marketing strategy, as the company positions AFEELA as a lifestyle enhancement product with new technologies; it would segregate itself within the crowded EV space.

AFEELA, which was first unveiled at CES 2023 as Sony and Honda’s joint venture in the EV market, is slated to bring its first commercial product, AFEELA 1 in California, in 2026. The Remote Play announcement just ahead of the launch during the festive season seems to be aimed at greater market visibility for both PlayStation and AFEELA.
